To be fair I don't know why manager I'd prefer in that sense - who knows what any of them would do with it. It's the only reason I tolerated Martinez really.

It's not an obsession with youth players it's wanting Everton to have a solid network through the age groups so that when we lose players we have free and ready made replacement hungry and waiting. What's the point in always spending money to replace the Osman's and Kone's of this world? I'm slightly bias as I actually prefer watching and researching our academy than I do the first team but I think it's something all fans should consider - not just our club. I don't count Barkley/Stones/Del etc. as "youngsters" because they have a lot of games under their belts for club and country; they're established professionals. The new manager isn't going to waver on playing them, they're as vital as a 30-year old might be.

Edit: Also you have to remember Shaw, Bale, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc. have come through their academy as well as Targett who currently plays for them and England U21's.

Yes I know mate - they've produced some class players. My point was that, in this current crop, those stars aren't there. If they were, they'd be playing.

Mhm we're in a better position but I just don't want us to turn into a Chelsea with a boss who ignores the kids. Loftus-Cheek, Baker etc. should be around their first team and they're not because they had Mourinho.

He's a very good manager, quite clearly shown by the continued rise we've had under him. His lack of faith in our academy players has annoyed quite a few here and some of his Eredivisie transfers have been questionable to say the least. However, they are the only two negatives I can think of during his stint.

I don't think he's a long-term manager and I don't think he'll stay too long when Barcelona eventually come knocking for him. He'll do a fantastic job for you and probably get you back up to where you think you should be, it's a shame we're losing him but he was never going to extend past his current contract and I honestly believe that we've told him he can go because of that. I wouldn't even want us to compete with the figures that are being thrown around tonight, you're definitely overpaying and it somehow feels like a bit of a panic option from Moshiri.

We've continued to progress despite losing managers and key players over the past few years and I'm sure we'll do the same again. Good luck with him if it actually does go through, feel free to take Wanyama and Pelle alongside him as well.

Worrisome for me.

Alright gays. I just noticed this thread because it was posted on the saints forum. Honest opinion on Ronald, I think he's an above average manager but nothing special, certainly not in Pochettino's class, and was lucky not to get the sack after publicly slating our academy during our bad run at xmas. I find our playing style now a bit dull, we play long balls a bit much for my liking, but he's done a solid job so was happy enough for him to stay but wasn't too fussed either way. I think the board have never really approved of him due to his disinterest in our academy, and whilst they’d like to keep him to retain the status quo, wouldn’t go out of there way to keep him and you’ve given us a nice excuse to get a more suitable manager in. Our continued success is because of the setup we have as a club, not individual players or the manager, I don’t know why other clubs can’t grasp this principle.

Hi mate.

This is the biggest thing putting me off appointing Koeman; I watched our U21's vs Southampton last season as they aired it live on their YouTube page and I was very shocked at how poor the Saints players were when we'd been seeing some fantastic players coming through. They're kind of a non-entity in the U21 league and granted this could just be that the talent isn't there but if it seems not much emphasis is placed there anymore that would also make sense.

Last couple of years our academy has come on leaps and bounds and I'd hate it if the pathway to the first team was blocked because a manager would rather buy than test his own. I mean it's understandable because managers are under pressure immediately to perform and perhaps can't risk kids but... food for thought.
Koeman was there for 2 years. (or was it 3?)

The academy system is a long term project and a new first team manager doesn't just come in and improve the youth teams overnight.

Everton's academy seems to be in good health, which is a positive for any manager coming in.

Our academy's fine / better than yours. He just won't play any of our academy players except giving Ward Prowse the obligatory 15min run out every game. He's just signed mediocre garb from Holland clogging up the squad instead

What we counting as success, just for interest sake
