Here, in full, are Wheeler's thoughts on another summer of upheaval at St Mary's.

'Ok. So I know that if Ronald Koeman leaves there'll be mickey taking aplenty from the people who don’t like Saints.

But, if he does quit, it will be one of the sourest moments in football.

Why, I hear you ask? Saints have a history of being raided for their brightest talents.

Forget Leicester - had Saints been able to fend off Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs then we could have won the title. Really, we could. It's not up for debate.

Shaw, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Clyne, Lambert, Alderwireld, Lovren.

You're not telling me a team with them in it wouldn't have stood a chance?

We have a fantastic manager coming in, that's a start.

We finished 11th with someone who who couldn't manage a sweet shop, so that's a beginning.

This season more than ever proved the league is that tight, that the most important thing is having a team playing as a team. So who knows?

I would be writing anyone off, that includes us. We have a good squad with money to invest and it's 10 weeks until the season starts.

To be honest, I can't see Everton getting top 4 in the next few years but I think Koeman has been brought in to get us back to a position where we might be able to. Martinez has ripped a decent team to shreds in the last 3 years and it will take time to get things in place to compete properly.

I see where you are coming from in terms of us not being much of a step up if at all now but I think maybe in Koeman's eyes he may feel that we will offer him more of a platform to show to the likes of Barcelona that he is capable and that maybe Southampton have plateaued in terms of potential?

I am in no doubt that if he does well he will be off somewhere else but if that happens, we will be in a much better place than we are now to attract a decent replacement, as are you.

I hope for you lot you finish higher than 6th

some league 1 misfit with zero history and no fans did that. you have to be A LOT better than that. surely?

It's evoltution not revolution, we don't expect anything other than an improvement throughout the club, on and off the field. If Southampton fans think we're expecting Champions League next year they're getting the wrong end of the stick.
Judge where we are at the end of his contract, and see how our finances, new stadium have fared, things won't change overnight.

Well said mate, I've had enough of doom and gloom for the last 20 odd years, about time we had something positive.

if some no mark club in the south can. Should be a piece of pish for a mega-naught club in the great city who will be signing Isco and Mata on the way.

be a bit embarrassing if you dont do it.

We are. honestly mate, Everton having Martinez last season was a massive handicap.

Just worry about your relegation battle, don't waste energy on what we are doing with your ex manager and expensive new signings.
