Really don't get the dislike toward the Rooney sendoff. Matt Jarvis, Frazier Campbell, John Ruddy and a whole host of other bad footballers have been given England caps. Hell Cleverley and Townsend have managed 13 each. It isn't like an England cap is THAT special. And for the people who want to argue that it should be about preparing the team for the future remember that you're playing a USA side that doesn't have a real manager and probably will bunker in and give you 70%. England probably won't be dealing with that too much in the near future.

I think it's disgraceful and demeaning to allow Rooney to come out of retirement for this game, we should be experimenting with the squad in friendly games.
Why is it?

Its a friendly, no one can care less about a international friendly against the U.S.A.

Lets be real, if he started a a team of championship players to give them a run out 90% of people wouldnt care.

Whatever you think, Rooney has done alot for this country over the years, he deserves a send off.

Theres only this uproar because its Rooney, no one would give a toss if it was Defoe or someone.

Get over it, lad deserves a good send off for a fantastic career.

Probably the wrong thread but why the hell am I hearing Joe Cole getting lauded this morning because he’s retired? I take it we’re celebrating mediocre players now just because they win trophies at a side they played little part in and were lucky to be at.

He’s being celebrated whilst England’s top goalscorer is causing outrage over a farewell cap. Can anyone say with any confidence where Joe Coles career went after about 2010? Liverpool maybe?

Right place right time, fortunate to get the job and also very fortunate with that world cup run. That being said, he has spoken impressively, his piping down of Boris being a highlight, and has show a willingness to try and move England forward tactically

Why does he deserve a 'special send off' more than Charlton,Shilton, Beckham,Cole,Lampard, even Slippy G? What makes him so special over them?
If 'no one can care less about the game' why play the fixture at all? Why risk injury to the likes of Pickford and Keane. We are all entitled to an opinion, don't be so arrogant stating 'I should get over' it is an opinion, have the same respect for mine as I have for yours.

Also you think there's an 'uproar' has he done something to offend me that I should be aware of?

It's the principal of the game not the subject matter which I have a gripe with.

Its a friendly that is being played regardless. Just forget about the Rooney bit and treat it as a normal friendly. It is such a none issue. To add to that he is the record English goalscorer like, if anyone deserves a send off it would be him. But as I say I am totally unarsed about the whole thing.

To be honest mate l have heard this reason for Rooney already which I think is ridiculous, how can Shilton have possibly become the highest goalscorer, why don't we bring him back because he had the most clean sheets? where should this end?

I think you're going over the top for a total none issue here. Aren't Spain doing something similar with David Silva? And he's had nowhere near the impact Rooney has had on his respective national team. Also how much are you going to learn about your players by playing a friendly against the USA when you would more than likely rest the better players as they have a "competitive" game on the Sunday against quality opposition. I don't understand the fume tbh.

Also upon a little bit of research (typing in the words "Peter Shilton testimonial england" into google) it seems he also had a testimonial so renders the Peter Shilton point mute.

If it's such a none issue why are you bothering about it Parker?, I feel it is an issue and I respect your opinion.

My point is getting lost here, I am not saying that Rooney himself should not get a special game what I am saying that nobody should be brought back specially to use an international fixture as a form of testimonial, have some sort of testimonial if you really must but don't feature it as an England international where players are earning caps for it ,it entirely demeans the importance and honour of playing for your country.

It is my opinion not a statement.

Rooney was quite rightly lauded on the night of his 100 caps and his record haul of goals and I thank him for that, but I think it should have been left there.

Can I make it clear I have never had a problem with Rooney playing for England, he gave great service and feel he retired at the right time, however I merely feel it should have been left at that as now 2 years or so after is last cap to be brought back is simply embarrassing IMHO.

Can't for the life of me understand how anyone can be even remotely arsed about Englands greatest every goal scorer coming on as a sub in the last 10-15 minutes so he can be given a send off. The stuff people get mad about is truly mind boggling. Its not like its a competitive match, its a friendly... and he's going to be on the pitch for grand total of about 10 minutes.

'Oh but it means someone else misses out on a 10 minute cameo' - Oh noes, their potential England career is surely ruined forever because of this.

Weirdos.

One of the few England players to have played decent in a major tournament tbh. He was pretty ace at Chelsea for a couple of seasons as well. Always liked him, especially after he stuck the knife into Liverpool.
