Southgate and England

Come on Dave throws some dung Roberto's way just for once.
I have a lot in the past: I readily acknowledge he cant set up a defence; I've stated lots of times he ruined McCarthy by rushing him back from injury too early - time after time; I say that he was weak in dealing with dressing rooms.

I do all that and can still emphasise that he is a very good manager. Look at his record everywhere he's gone. Only a bitter fool fails to acknowledge that.

Yeah, I take your point. It's not like Belgium took the piss out of Brazil like is it?.............

I never mentioned that Dave. It was obviously a great result, but you do often bring up the fact Belgium beat England twice in meaningless games, and at the same time have a go at England for celebrating beating Spain and Croatia in “meaningless” games.

I think the term you`re looking for is flip flopping lol

Regarding Gareth Southgate and England.I am loving it.
That is all.

Me too. Maybe all that St Georges Park "DNA" stuff has actually had a result. It seems to me that many of these lads have played in youth England teams for a while, and are not (yet) tarnished by the Golden Generation crap that seemed to impede superior players back in the day.

Just like a group of mates really enjoying playing for England, and their Manager.

He relies on good defenders to do their job to the best of their ability way too much. Even Belgium's cant manage that every single game. That's my criticism. Does that make stating he is a very good manager a contradiction?

Yes. A good manager can set up a defence as a bare minimum. If a team collectively lose it, defensively, ergo, they are not being managed well.

I think proper managers, like Kendall, Fergie, Clough, Graham, Pep, Jose, would agree.

They aren't 'proper managers', they're legends!

Very few managers can get a balance that's exceptional.

Martinez's approach to a game is to place greater emphasis on attack as the best form of defence and then trust your defence when called on to be halfway professional. He is an exceptional attacking coach and the results when they come off our a joy to watch.
