"Well, that was grim, wasnt it?"

"Well, that was grim, wasnt it?". My arl fella has always had a knack at summarising events pretty well, particularly in relation to Everton and even though it was an easy one to call last night, I think that line summed it up well.

Like my Dad, I'm pretty naive at times with Everton, I'm an eternal optimist. I never predict Everton to lose, I just can't bring myself to do it. Those who know me well enough will know a "1-1" prediction is typically my way of saving face for an expected defeat. Even when I don't fancy our chances, just before the game I'll consider the most positive scenario. "Well if we dig in, match them for effort and get a bit of luck...." rolls of my tongue more readily than me mars tourette like shouts of "DANIEL, YOUR TEA'S GONNA GO COLD". I'm convinced she still shouts that every night, even when I'm not there.

But after the first leg and going into this one, I "predicted" my 1-1 (Translation: I don't fancy us at all...). After the first leg I said on here that I think we'll look back at Rodwell/Distins calamity as costing us the tie and I still think that was the case. Sporting were always going to step it up at home and I was concerned about our European nous. It was difficult to ignore doubts towards our mental capacity to approach games like that, I suspected uncertainty to kick in.

Last night, I think that uncertainty was a big problem. Despite playing with 5 attacking midfielders, we seemed to set up defensively. Moyes and Neville had said the right things in the build up, claiming that we were going there to attack, to win, to score... well it didn't transpire. I could rant on and on about last night, why did we camp in our own half? 1 shot all game coming in the 70+ minute, who's job was it to support Saha?, etc etc... but I'd rather file this one under the 'European embarrassment ' category with D.Bucharest, Benfica and try and forget about it and move on. Hopefully, Moyes and the players will learn from another European failure and it'll assist us in the only worthwhile European competition in 2011/12.

I thought maybe we would of moved on and learnt from them, but i guess not :(

Did we try? I remember we gave it a real go for the last 10 seconds, but other than that.

You know, I can't really disagree with you.

Not angry, just disappointed now.

Lets 'concentrate on the league' now so we can get into a euro qualifying place for next season, play crap and go out against struggling sides.

Was unable to see the game, got home some time later and found out what happened, I was not pleased, a little surprised as well, did not expect the margin to be by three goals, I wouldn't have expected that.

I understand there was more profanity on here during match duration than a re-run of GoodFellas,

I can understand peoples frustrations.

And the [Poor language removed] got through against some east euro no marks on the same night just to rub some salt in the wounds.

So, european adventure over for this season, out with a whimper maybe, not much else to say really.

Well there is, but other users have already done that for me.

It's great one week, and crap the next, hard to keep up sometimes.
