I would give it to Hamilton.
And Bruce, I will give my reasons why.
Firstly, the year before he made the step-up to F1, he raced in A1-GP IIRC. And they are all spec cars. So the cars are all equal, just the different teams set them up differently. He won that, beating all of the other hot-prospects.
He was so good infact, McLaren had him replace the departing Kimi Raikkonen. His first year he took it to the reigning WC and whooped all over him. He lost out to his own immaturity. Then he comes back the next (this)year and has a 'bad' start to the season and then goes on a rampage, racking up the points all over the show. This, all while the FIA continue their anti-McLaren vendetta (IMO they have it in for them). And he still wins it. Amazing.
And in between the 2 seasons, as McBain said earlier, puts in a tremendous time in the Suzuki Liana, beating most of the other F1 drivers (who had dry track in front of them) ON A WET TRACK!!!!
And remember, 2 seasons in F1, youngest ever F1 champ.
