Star Wars - Episode VII

nope, but the issue is that the newer trilogy is more typical of how modern action blockbusters are made now. So that's why some us think the latest trilogy will be horrid (same director as the rancid Star Trek reboot too).

I know what your point is by the way. And actually to an extent agree.

It just annoys me when people say things as though their opinion is the be all and end all.

For example I enjoyed World War Z. I can't comment on the Star Trek reboot as I've not seen them as I've not been into StarvTrek ever. I do however, know people who loved them. Especially the most recent one.

It would be naive to think the new Star Wars film will be anywhere near as good as the original 3. But also a little naive to write it off already.

jj abrams co created lost

and if you've ever seen lost then you will know its one of my favourite shows ever

however he butchered it with his completely stupid ending for the whole show.

c'mon ijjy...you know what forum plauder is like...everything you read has by default an "imho", especially when chatting about the arts.

I sort of did too...but it was cliched as fook (one white handsome man saves the world while always thinking about his mawkish family).

Lost is one of my favourites too, Seasons 1-5 was the best telly ever! Season 6 was crap (imho :P).

But Abrams had nowt to do with it. He left Lost after the first season.

As an aside, I feel Lost has dated already due to its excessive reliance on dramatic music, which now just comes across as parody. See Breaking Bad for how to whip up effective drama without resorting to music.

At least Lost's music was effective (back then), these modern blockbusters don't even think about the music anymore, they just put an incessant blandly-generic orchestral over everything and hope nobody notices.

Thing is, kids now - my daughter laughs and loves jar jar binks, and that's the effect it has on the generation if kids who never fell in love with 'our' version. It will be the same in the next few I reckon

I didn't particularly like or enjoy any of the most trilogy, I have parts in all three I enjoyed but comparing them to the original is a bit difficult, Lucas set out to remove any connection ( directly ) to the original 3 and only connected them by timeline and not by theme.

If you read some of his comments leading up to the release he makes it known that the newer trilogy where made for the " next generation " of star wars fans. We all hold the belief that he ruined the original trilogy by consistently tinkering and re-releasing them.

I don't support the idea of him milking the franchise, it's a money making entity now, particularly since Disney owns it.

Nicely put.

I can't write VII off though. They've not even made it yet.

It's a zombie movie with Brad Pitt in it. If you went into it not expecting cliches then that's a bit silly.

big fan of some of Pitt's films: 12 Monkeys, Seven, Fight Club, Snatch, Interview with a Vampire...even Meet Joe Black was interesting, and different.

But since he's become überfamous I guess his daring in choosing film roles has gone upcreek.

Also. I know I'm in the minority here, I thought Lost was dreadful. As was that World War Z, didn't know Abrams made that.

I watched that New York alien one he made too, that was truly crap.

Meh. He is what he is. I would not watch a film because he's in it.

He has talents.

For me - the idea of taking my daughter who adores Star Wars to the cinema together to see the new one makes me smile, it will be an experience for everyone.

I dunno in any situation how a part of art almost half a century apart can readily be seamlessly knitted together without criticism?

Cloverfield.

Thought it was ok. Probably will never watch it again though. Despite having bought it.
