And look how their recruitment has gone this past window.

Unfortunately there is a lot more to a managers role now than there was in the past. In his heyday I doubt Ferguson was doing 2-3 hours mandatory postmatch interviews for domestic and International media. Add in the vast number of commercial partnerships who all want their photoshoots and promos, much larger staff numbers to co-ordinate and the fact that signing a player now is a lot more involved given the finances, number of intermediaries and the web being a lot more tangled in the modern game. The dynamic has changed.

I also think there are very few competent DOF arrangements where players are dumped on managers. A lot of managers would rather the recruitment network is ran by someone else with regular consultation on the sorts of player required and then more specifics on individuals as players are identified.
Exactly
Manager will say he want a tall left footed CB with certain attributes and the DOF will give him a list and a few videos to watch.
Manager will probably watch player in person a couple of times and then make his choice.
DOF negotiates the deal

You're not the only one to mention this, but Just what exactly are his links to Joorabchian? Genuine question BTW as I have no idea.
Joorabchian seems to have some at least tenuous links to just about anybody involved in football today.

I know there’s been comments throughout the thread linking him with Kia Joorabchian but I’m yet to actually see any evidence of this or any reputable source state it.

It looks like Hitchen was a scout for one of his years at QPR during the time Joorabchian worked as an “advisor” for Mark Huges but that was back in 2013 and Hitchen was just a club scout back them, I haven’t been able to find anything linking the two of them together.
Thank you @jazzy

I don't like DOF.. I prefer a Chief Scout support system. If we do have to have a DOF and particularly in this instance as Lampard is new it should only happen if Lampard agrees and if Lampard is part of the interview process. The DOF should work 'alongside' The Manager at the same level and both report into The Chairman who then reports into the owner/board. In other words the 'football men' work out the details, the strategy and the owners give feedback but not footballing direction. Lampard knows what he wants to do, so do all Managers so having a middle man complicate conversations between Manager/Chairman/Board makes no sense. Nobody can say DOFs are brilliant, they job hop/are sacked as often as Managers. Their role should be in 'support' of the Manager & the Clubs goals.

Not sure about the position but right now we have a young manager who is probably knows many of the players and ex-players around unlike shall we say some previous managers.

I know nothing about the guy but a close friend is a spurs fan and he said we needed to avoid this chap. He said he came across weak in the spurs all or nothing show on Amazon. I haven’t seen it so can’t comment!

Worth a read this...

Read that before...writer seems to be a dimwit.

The problems he highlights were on the managers signing choices and Levy being unwilling to pay for the top players.

Only concern is the lack of January business.
