Everton director of football Steve Walsh has revealed his desire to galvanise the Blues by unearthing the next Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

The former Leicester chief scout was widely credited for boosting the Foxes' historic title-winning campaign by signing gems such as the forward pair and midfielder Ngolo Kante.

Now Walsh, who joined the Goodison outfit in the summer, is plotting how to repeat the trick on Merseyside, with the January transfer window on the horizon.

Everton's business in the summer was incomplete, with Ronald Koeman missing out on several targets - mainly the forward he wanted to support Romelu Lukaku.

And Walsh said: "Recruitment is key at any football club and Everton is no different.

"Hopefully I can duplicate here what I did at Leicester.

"There are certainly one or two players out there that we'd like to talk to and convince that Everton is the place for them."

Walsh admitted his role at Goodison is slightly different than the one he carried out at the King Power stadium, but he is relishing it nevertheless.

"I'm enjoying it very much," he said. "It's a new role but I'm enjoying it so far.

"I'm not in the dressing room as much but I'm still out there trying to find the best talent."

Walsh added that he is building a strong relationship with Koeman, who he has found to be an impressive colleague.

He said: "He's absolutely top drawer. I've been really impressed by him.

"He's driven, he's methodical and he knows what he wants. I enjoy his brand of football."

He enjoys long ball football and clownhead niasse, sorry Bolasie, rolling the ball over his feet...

hmmm.

He spotted Gana, yeah?

Seems ok to me.

So did i...mentioned him on here months ago. Just solely based on his stats though and never thought he would be this effective, thought he would be good on our bench when we signed our summer superstars...

Not sure it was such a masterstroke as he had watches him over 2 seasons at least.

Nope, Walsh signed Gana, the rest of the players were signed on Koemans word.

I wasnt insinuating anything else, just that he enjoys long ball football and watching our teams focus being to get it to bolasie to roll the ball over his foot, charge head down doing silly 'tricks' and putting the ball randomly into the box.

Cant see how anyone could enjoy our.football at the moment, very Wimbledon.

Its nothing like Wimbledon, they were very aggressive and battled for every ball.

The football we have played this season is better than anything served up by Martinez from December onwards.

And I don't think we've actually 'gone long' at any point.

Seriously? What would you class the punts forward from Williams and Jags towards Lukaku and Bolasie as?

Its not about bringing up Martinez...every...single...time...its about the style of play. Its boring as hell...

It was much worse under RM when it went badly though. I despair if people can't see the clear signs of improvement from the end of last season to now.
