I have no idea what model Everton are pursuing anymore. It certainly isn't the one we've had for years based on the academy, good value small fee signings and a marquee player every three or four seasons.

The academy has been placed effectively in moth balls, and the primary route to add new players appears to be throwing mountains of cash at mediocrity like Bolasie, Sissoko and Depay.

None of that is true...

It's spot on.

We wanted immediate rejuvenation this summer. In part we got it, and Bolasie has been our second-most productive player so far.

Depay is 22 and at this stage it's only rumours of a potential LOAN deal. In fact, it's all from Koeman saying that if there was a deal possible it would be interesting.

Walsh himself a few weeks ago in a well-publicised article said that he attends all the academy and first-team games - his role isn't just transfers, but also to work with the coaches on picking up the youngsters (either to go into the first team or youngsters from elsewhere to go into the academy at first). This is backed up by the world-renowned Sports Scientist who we have running our academy, who said the plan is to work alongside Walsh to ensure the development and sustainability of the club.

That isn't a quick-fix. Bar Davies and Holgate, none of the academy players are anywhere near ready yet, that is clear.

Yet others, like Dowell and Walsh, have also been training with the first team day-in day-out.

In the meantime we need to get players in that are ready to have an immediate effect on the first team. Four of our five signings have done just that, and all of those four have at times contributed greatly to winning us games/points, which allows us to grow as a club, which in turn provides a better platform for the quality young players and sustainable growth.

We've never had a Director of Football before so of course there is still a bit of a middle-ground/shades of grey.

"In the context of a premier league outfit like Everton it is believed that Stuart's remit will involve organising the scouting network, and compiling and organising data on potential first team targets".
Does this mean he hands a list of potential targets to Walsh, who then puts them in an envelope, licks said envelope, and writes upon it, F.A.O. Mr. Koeman, and puts it in his pigeonhole.
Goes home, and his wife, with furrowed brow, sympathetically says, "Busy day Dear " ?
"It's full steam ahead darling. There was stiff competition but I managed to order a thousand self sealing envelopes."
"Glass of wine" ?
"Just the one love. All go tomorrow, looking to hire a new co-ordinator who'll fully coordinate the recruitment coordinators to enable them to coordinate the scouting network obviating the need for a scouting coordinator. At least in the short term. Go on then, I'll have a small whisky".

Bolasie - some context: "productive" in one of the least productive attacks in the PL.

Depay: would be loaned with a view to a move...and that wont be buttons

Academy: proof of the pudding is in the eating. Koeman himself gave an interview last week indicating that the academy players were not first team contenders.

What, the same interview in which he praised Davies to the hilt?

Get a grip man.

Only one of your examples plays for Everton.

However, Barkley and Davies ( academy graduates) are squad members.

You sir are a fool.

THIS THIS THIS !!!

For years I wish we had money, but that was because I expected it to mean that we kept the same model, except deals for Moutinho, Riquelme and other constant links would finally get over the line. No more losing targets to haggle over the odd million pound.
