I'd never moan if we tried to spend big money on a real marquee signing. What happened this summer was a joke. Bolasie for £27M or whatever. insane.

Nature of the market though the fans would have been the first to moan had a Spurs swooped in and signed him whilst we refused to meet the asking price.

The summer window should have been much more co-ordinated and Koeman should have got his targets in earlier. If Palace were asking daft money - move on.

That, of course, is always supposing we didn't have to wait until late on to sell Stones and then buy...perish the thought, we have a billionaire now and we dont do that anymore...

There was alot of average crap going for big money in summer transfer window so we did dodge some bullets (see sissoko, Perez etc) but Steve Walsh only came in late in the window and the club had to source a new manager for a big part of that window.

Not making excuses just telling the facts as it seems there are those distorting the facts to have a moan at the club

This is why I dont like the role of DoF. It overly complicates matters.

January has to see major improvement. The Depay talk is not making that look like teething problems are ironed out.

I have no idea what model Everton are pursuing anymore. It certainly isn't the one we've had for years based on the academy, good value small fee signings and a marquee player every three or four seasons.

The academy has been placed effectively in moth balls, and the primary route to add new players appears to be throwing mountains of cash at mediocrity like Bolasie, Sissoko and Depay.

the academy had produced naff all for the first team in 10 yrs apart from barkley.

Move on to who?

Koeman wanted players in their prime with premier league experience to get us Europe.

We are very much on course for that.

He needs to stop trying to break world transfer records and focus on players in the 35-45 million bracket instead. I know we are absolutely minted now, but I think it makes sense to get two or three 40 million pound players in at first, rather than going for two or three 60 million pound targets but failing to get them so that we are left with Tom Cleverley again.

Davies has gone from the first team to a squad member and that's seen as progress by you?

One of those three players might play for Everton, but another would have been here if Sissoko had agreed to sign for a kings ransom, fee.

Try and get it right before you label others as a fool.

He has started one competitive game for the first team... That's not 'going from the first team to a squad member'

Are you just gonna say the same thing in every thread mate?

And IIRC we actually went for Koulibaly, Witsel (among others) before Walsh joined. In fact, one of the first things that happened after he arrived was Gueye's signing.

But ok.

Gueye was a quality signing, but I do think we need to stop going for the very best players, and maybe just settle for a couple of 40 million pound players instead. I think the introduction of a couple of 40 million pound players could see us really improve and possibly even compete. We don't need to go for the very best, there is a bracket below that which could see us compete if we got a few of them.

Everton to host scouting summit as Steve Walsh plots transfer strategy

Exclusive: Blues director of football to holds talks with recruitment team this weekend

Steve Walsh will head up an Everton scouting summit this weekend as the Blues’ recruitment drive gathers pace.

The club’s director of football will bring together his new-look team for a meeting to plan their talent spotting strategy.

Walsh appointed Martyn Glover in August as Everton’s new chief scout and last week Laurence Stewart started his role as senior recruitment co-ordinator.

The Blues have lost key scouts Steve Brown and Ian Atkins to Manchester United and Aston Villa, respectively, in recent months with Walsh revamping their recruitment set-up in the new director of football model implemented by Farhad Moshiri this summer.

Ronald Koeman has already made Manchester United’s Memphis Depay one of his main targets for the January transfer window but Walsh and his team will also be discussing potential recruits for the summer and January 2018.

So now he's employing people to do his job for him... hmmm.

Koeman is employed to coach the team and Steve Walsh is there to find, scout and sign the players Koeman determines he needs.

Not sure what's difficult to grasp about that considering we got the DoF from the reigning champs

If I hear "Joined up thinking", "Ducks in a row", or any other 1990s management tripe, I will rattle my tea cup.
