I actually played for Chorley School Boys under Steve Walsh. Still can't believe his rise through the football system. He managed to get our Chorley Team to furthest ever position in the English Schools Cup (last 8), not bad for an area with only 5/6 schools. I think we knocked out holders Sefton along the way. Anyways, one thing I can say - he does know how to pick players for positions with limited options. As we've seen with the Euro's and Leicester its not about having 11 players who are best in their position, but getting a team together that actually works and bonds. Like I say not bad for a former PE teacher in Chorley, who managed Chorley Schools on the side. Hope it works out!

Have you still got his number? Ring him and ask him if we're getting Mata

....the family home is still in Chorley which must've been part of the attraction with EFC.

Yup he was PE teacher at Parklands, Chorley. From what I remember back in the day he did a bit of work for Blackpool and Bury. No one from that Chorley team did owt though!

....quarter finals of the English Schools Trophy is a fine achievement for an area like Chorley. I presume it was U15. Sometimes you get a freak year, Huyton Boys had a good run in the 70s. I got to a semi final but was beaten by Chelmsford of all places, but that team went on to produce a number of pro's.

We ended up being beaten 7-0 by Sheffield at Bramhall Lane. Don't think any of us had played in a stadium before (not including the astro salt pitch which was pne) . Was just saying to a guy who was in goal that day, do you realise that Kevin Davies knocked 4 past you in that match!

Still fantastic memories - back page of the chorley guardian every week :)

ps think it was u15s
