Steven Naismith though.

The injury really came at the worst time, I reckon if he was fit we'd have at least won against Arsenal and Leicester. Even if he was just able to come on after 70 minutes.
He has a presence on the pitch and can contribute more than Naismith defensively. IMO, Naismith largely enjoys the luxury of a free role in behind Lukaku and isn't really tasked with what Barkley has to do. RB is primarily a creative player, but front to back as a defensive whole we're reduced by his absence from the middle of that team.

Barkley wont be sidleined for a couple of reasons: politically speaking he isn't short of suitors and Everton would be playing with fire not giving him his first team berth back; ability wise he offers us more than Naismith.

It's not going to be an issue for Martinez I dont think. We have a strong squad in terms of our attack and Naismith will play a part in that. If he continues his current good form he'll see game time even after Barkley returns.

I agree that when fully match fit Barkley will get into the team but I don't think it will necessarily be Naismith that makes way for him though.

People will knock him for his lack of creativity, touch, and pace, but if there is one person I want in this squad one on one with the keeper with the game in the balance, it's surely Naismith. I'm joining the Naisayers.

It's a tough dilemma. Barkley offers more in the middle of the field, putting less pressure on Barry and McCarthy. Naismith is scoring goals, but isn't suited as a sole forward, especially when you have Lukaku. And we have better options out wide. He's doing too well to drop, but causes formation issues.

It's tough having so many boss players to fit in.
