I'll be honest - I thought we were mad not to sign him for £8 mill and I couldn't believe the substitution.

It's a good job Mr Martinez knows more about football than me.

Naismith always works hard but yesterday he was sensational.

Enjoy your birthday fella

Me too. If only he were more consistent. But yesterday he was just great. So hats off to you Naismith.

I also loved the constant snide battle with Ivanovitch. Both of them diving, getting some afters in, moaning at the ref and generally doing everything necessary in the modern game to win. Straight from the Luis Suarez Guide to Winning at Any Cost.

Somehow I think a forward line of Kone, Lukaku and Naismith is not the arnswer long-term but it certainly was yesterday

His post match comments about a starting place were very arrogant and very presumptuous (especially from someone with his thimbleful of talent). It was a questioning of the manager's decision to leave him on the bench this season so far, and I hope Roberto rewards him with a pat on the back, calling him 'super-sub' and benching from here on in.

lol...usually you and I are on the same page re Naismith but today I think you are unusually curmudgeonly : today, his slotting was top notch, as was his ball control, reading of the movement/pace of the game, and general footballing wherewithal (which equates to appreciation of space...for oneself and /or teammates).
Humble pie today mate...for me ... and you

You have to ask yourself why that was. He was angry and hungry coming off the bench. He could have been sent off before he even scored. Do you think that level of commitment would have been there if he was a starter?

He's a bench player. Put him in the team from the off and he'll settle down into an anonymous game full of passing errors.

I think we all know that Naismith isn't going to score 25 goals this season and play 40 games. But to rebuke him for questioning why he didn't start is a bit begrudgin. He had just scored his first Premiership hat trick and against the champions. If he was going to have a high opinion of himself I think it was going to be yesterday. But generally I want all our players questioning why they don't start, I want them confident and busting to get going. I don't want players playing for Everton thinking I only good enough for the bench, don't pick me I'll let you down.
This weekend there should have been an amnesty on Naismith, all Evertonians should be congratulating him and wishing him a happy birthday.

Does this mean that mirallas has every right to 'whinge' (As you fondly put it) when Naismith's selected ahead of him?
