That bench today. Anyone still harbouring notions of CL football next season need to take a long look at it. And Billy Liar isn't going to sanction spending to strengthen it either.

Is the right answer. Look how city have swatted aside swansea today.

And don't think arsenal and chelski will perform any worse than that.

The reality of the situation is we are in a (probably) futile battle for fourth against the RS, spurs, and united.

Happy new year Bill

I hope dozy Marriner has been told to keep his eye on that dirty [Poor language removed] Adam today. The yellow toothed dosser has been out of control for the past few weeks. Probably run out of his supply of Buckfast wine.

I will say one negative about Martinez at the moment: his pre-game reassurances about injuries and upcoming games are complete horse****. Distin expected to be ok.

CB: today was THE worst time to face a crisis there. Crouch will be as delighted as a dog with two dicks.

I'd have pushed Barry back into CB with Stone and brought Barkley back to fill in for Barry, put Oviedo ahead of Baines and shifted Pienaar inside behind Lukaku.

What a bright idea, lets just reshuffle the whole team in order to not play 2 centre backs in their main position....

How about lets trust the young lad Stones who has masses of potential and Alcaraz who Martinez bought in to be main backup.

And let the rest of the very strong attacking lineup carry on doing what they've been doing best for the season so far.

last time we played against two centre backs who had never played with each other we lost against that team and that team kept a cleansheet away from home

yes - sunderland who had wes brown and john o shea missing.

Hmm.

Sat 1st Jan 2005. Subs: Turner, Chadwick, Osman, Campbell, Naysmith.

Finished 4th that season.

TBF, 2005 was not the competitive season this is. We basically had to see off a Liverpool team led by Benitez with more of an eye on the CL in his first season in charge. This season we're taking a gun to a rocket-grenade fight.

But that was so last year.

Today is the first time since January 31 v Man City at Goodison that #EFC have had both Jagielka and Distin unavailable a year or so ago [if right]
