In fairness, Varane is 25 and Umtiti 24. They're entering their prime years in a way and are both vastly experienced (even though I appreciate most CBs are at their best by 28/29).

That’s my point though. Age doesn’t always equate to a more suitable defensive purchase.

Silva will have to see what he can coach into Schneids, Keane etc. I am quite looking forward to see what he does with some of these players, when he went to Hull initially he had them playing, it didn't last though. Would rather punt half of them but that's not realistic in one transfer window so I think we could see more of the deadwood next season than most would like.
