How though? In what way? Neither are particularly fast. Both are balanced in that they are solid defensively. Both good in the air for outside backs. Both score the occasional goal, but often from distance as I don’t think either get into the box often. Decent crossers of the ball. Digne is rather strong on the ball, not sure about Tierney. Tierney is younger of course, maybe he can still get better all around.

Tierney is quick. He's a better crosser than Digne. I think he has more about him in terms of leadership, versatility and character.

But, Digne is a decent passer, gets up and down and has experience at top clubs and with France. Questions over his resilience perhaps, if things aren't going his way.

I'd rather sign Tierney at £25m, but if Celtic are wanting loads (like £35m plus) and Digne is available for £10-15m, then it's a smart move to go for Digne.

Shaqiri is unbelievably lazy. Made up he’s going to them. He’ll either be the rotten apple in the cart because his ego won’t take being on the bench, or he’ll be bone idle because he is on the bench and will be completely unmotivated. I can’t imagine him willfully playing this super sub role they all think he’ll do. Would not want him anywhere near Everton, he’d be off with the boys club of Williams Wazza Mirallas Schneiderlin before you knew it.

Adding height would be a massive bonus with Doucoure and Mina.

Would be pretty happy with three quality additions tbh.

Would ideally love another left winger but the big three positions should be priority.

That would be the perfect scenario, if we signed another left winger. Or, ideally Lookman stepped up.

They lose Coutinho and get Shaqiri.

That alone will tell you what direction they're going in.

While I don't think he's going to help them be league contenders, I will say that if there's one thing Klopp's great at, it's getting the whole squad to buy into a mentality and togetherness. It suits their cultish style anyway, but I can see Shaqiri being far from lazy.

I agree, i will be amazed if Klopp manages to get him motivated, he just is not that sort of player, if he was he would still be at Bayern as he has all the talent in the world.

I think so far that's down to 13m with the players gone, still need to cut it down further though, and bring in funds from player sales.

..even if they don’t leave in this window, Baines, Williams and Jagielka are in the last 12 months of their contracts and are very high earners. I suspect all 3 will be gone by this time next year.

Out: 5 (Robles, Funes Mori, Rooney, Garbutt, Onyekuru)

Current Total: 33

Not a bad start in terms of the clear out. I’d be looking to finalise Tarashaj’s transfer next, then move Galloway & Browning out with Pennington on loan.

That’d be 9 out and the squad down to 29.

Then once we get rid of the likes of Williams, Mirallas, Martina, Besic and Bolasie, the squad will be looking a lot more streamline!
Crazy how bloated that squad was allowed to get by previous regimes. You could argue that there are a few names missing from that list too:

Mateusz Hewelt: 22 this year and has travelled to Austria with the 1st team
Callum Connolly: 21 this year, has travelled to Austria, good experience in the Championship last year
Joe Williams: 22 this year, due to travel to Austria before injury, good experience in the Championship last year
Jose Baxter: 26yo, has now been moved on
Harry Charsley: 22 this year

I can't see much value in any of these players being involved with the u'23 squad this year (maybe with the exception of Hewelt if 3rd choice for the 1st team) either due to age or current ability, so would add to the list of players that need to be moved on either temporarily or permanently if deemed not good enough to be part of the 1st team squad

No idea what Digne is like, but from what I’ve read he’s an excellent tackler but not so good going forward. Tony hibbert comes to mind. Is he what we need in the modern game where full backs are so important to give width? I’ve seen a bit of Tierney and despite the obvious step up from the spl, I think he would be excellent. Hope we get him.

From that list you could see selling or loans out if we cannot move some of them on permanently for -
Martina, Galloway, Browning, Pennington, Besic, Williams, Schneiderlin, Klasssen, Sandro, Mirallas, Bolasie and Dowell.

Wouldn’t rule out loans for Robinson or the sale of Jags either, possibly Niasse too but I’d keep him as an impact sub for when we need something different.

I'm sure he's pretty rapid with good work rate.

Can also play togger...being at Barca and that
