Summer 2018 Transfer Window

I didn't him more than once or twice at Palace so I'm only going off my memory of youth England games and the recent senior England games.

He was a goalscoring number 10, really good finisher, but he benefited from being twice the size of his opponents which always makes me doubt how it will transfer to the adult game.

I do like him, he can beat a player which is a useful skill but the lack of pace seems difficult to fix. He has the attributes for a box to box #8 role but I've never seen him run a game in the way that Barkley did at his best.

I haven't seen the finishing, but if he wasn't employed in that type of position at Palace, I'm not going to hold it against him. He may not have pace, but he does seem to get by players. I just don't see much product after that. The England performance to me just seemed to magnified what I thought I already saw - not the best decision maker, isn't going to make a decisive play in the final third. Could he be more of a future defensive midfielder? Ross loved to hold it - used to run with it - but could never tackle or never had the positional sense to play that way. Could RLC? I just think as a central mid getting into the area, you have to be able to create something. Even Tom Davies has a trick or a clever pass up his sleeve when he gets in there.

And my point is can you see Abraham in that same role with Everton producing as much if not more? I sure can.

Absolutely not.

DCL, to his misfortune, played about five different roles last season and took a load of stick. He grafted and got himself on the scoresheet.

Abraham didn't. He was given chance after chance and blew it. I like the kid, he was enjoyable to watch in the Championship but in the chances he's had at this level, he's looked worse than DCL.

Silva - I'll sign the players I want
Marco Silva is confident Everton’s power brokers will deliver the “players I ask them for” with less than a month of the transfer window left, writes Phil Kirkbride who spoke to the new Blues boss in Austria after the club record 22-0 win in his first match in charge.
SIlva told the ECHO:

“We have our targets and we have already decided the positions we want to improve in our squad.
“We believe in all of our players but, for sure, we will do that and we have decided our targets.
“Our board, our chairman, our sporting director, they are doing everything they can to give me the players I ask them for.”

Watched the game yesterday and saw Connolly for the first time in central midfield role (saw him previously at left back for under 23s and he was very capable if unspectacular). What a revelation. He can tackle, has pace, is outstanding in the air , but 2 things stood out - firstly his reading of play so that he was always in right position to help a player in possession shows he has a natural football intelligence, but secondly he's right footed but so comfortable with his left as well (what an asset to have as a central midfielder when you have to receive and see passes from both sides). I know opposition were terrible so can't wait to see him against better players. But having been so disappointed by Schneiderlin I'd look to move him on ASAP knowing we've got Connolly, Williams, Baningime and Davies.

The invisible man from Iceland, shone in a gash Swansea team the season before last.

The invisible man from London, did anything but shine in a gash Swansea team last season.

File under, soon to be permanently playing in the Championship.

We played the Dog n Duck. I would look good.

They played a similar amount of minutes.

Very similar stats in goals, assists, shots etc

DCL massively higher in how often he headed it and Abraham in dribbles.

I like both, personally rate Abraham as a much better finisher but when he has played against Championship defences in cup games DCL has looked really effective so it might just be significantly easier.

Don’t really understand how can West Ham be spending so much money...already spent 95 millions in this transfer window...and stay within financial FairPlay. Don’t recall them selling any players unless it’s a giving that Arnautovic is leaving for big money??? As it stands we are falling behind them and Leicester...very disappointing window and zero ambition from the club who seems to only be concerned in balancing the books.

FFP is over three seasons not three weeks so they've plenty of time to balance it out. Would expect a few departures as well.

As last season shown for us, spending money means absolutely nothing.

That doesn't mean to say we shouldn't spend any though, we certainly need to get a move on.
