Ridiculous wages for Meyer. I rate him but hes not as good as Loftus-Cheek and is on £170k per week wages?? Palace fans were laughing at us about the Richarlison signing ffs.
We paid fatty Rooney £150k per week last season. I think Palace have got themselves a great player. Be interesting if FFP comes into it though as they must be topping out now on player wages

Clubs aren’t really minted it’s depends on income and outgoing and balance between the two, everything else is just numbers. Equally owners there are limits on outside investment these days. It’s about how you run your business.

There are differences though, outside of Everton, Spurs, Utd, Norway, City and Chelsea, almost every other club is on a spectrum of boom and bust. Look at the rest of the league, I bet when you do, you will remember them clubs in the lower leagues. The six clubs I mention can long term range knowing they will likely always be in the PL barring a catastrophie.

Every other club apart of the ones I’ve mentored has a life cycle in the PL, they might have a good manager or good set up, but ultimately they are all a couple of bad moves away from unraveling. Stoke and WBA a case in point this year, every other club bar above are living on a fuse. We don’t really get that being one of the six.
...Arsenal?

They are offsetting the wage by paying no fee really, a few mill in sweeteners spread around the lad and agents and it’s probably works out close to the equivalent of us signing Ricy, thing is we are Everton and can absorb that. They are Palace and could get relegated. They are already paying 80% of all their income on wages. Look at us with a head space of 60 mill and conducting a fire sale, they are taking on another 10+ mill in wages.

As for the deal itself, we will see a time in our lifetime where transfer fees will be paid less and less maybe not at all or rarely and players will run down their contracts and command wages like this. Look what Sanchez earns, now this lid, players won’t be long cottoning on that they are being done being bought and sold.
not sure it will come to that. Players nowadays are selfish and have no patience. Their agents, even more so. If a big club comes in for them, they are not going to hang around for another 3 or 4 years on comparatively low wages just to get a bumper deal in 3 years time

Ha yeah I knew I was missing one, I’m actually a big advocate of how Wenger particularly ran Arsenal. Villa were there to until Learner ruined them.

It’s sad to acknowledge we are the least successful of those clubs in the modern era.
...by some distance. But we remain one of only 6 clubs to have always been in the PL (City of course drops out from your list).

You had to say it just before the season started.....
And Arsenal might be miffed.

Never even heard of the bloke let alone seen him play, but one worrying stat is he's never played a single game for argentina which puts him behind funes mori and rojo on the pecking list which doesnt fill me with confidence on his ability. You never know tho could just be a late bloomer. Can we not just keep our eyes on proven ability as it's such a desperate fix that is needed

Think they are owned by a parent company, have no idea who is involved in that. They look shaky to me to be honest, that wage to turnover is basket case and as we know these days there is a limit to any outside investment, doesn’t seem to have been any, really they are a Frank De Boer decision away from unraveling like I say they are shaky, I also think they spend beyond their means. They pretty much have fought relegation every season in their Div 1/PL history, in fact I think this third season is their best ever run in the top flight.

Teams like Palace are in a different economic cycle to established PL clubs. They go from a very low cost base in the Epl to huge money overnight, genrally the head room is huge and see investment expedentially as they try to compete to stay on the gravy train by investing hugely quickly, Benteke, Cabaye, Zaha, Townsend, PVA, Meyler etc. Problem is if it doesn’t work you are left with a massive cost base. Palace try to play this high risk game. Other clubs do it differently like Bourmouth and Burnley and risk mitigate. You would never see a deal like this at those clubs.

Essentially Palace are very shaky, despite what evidently looks a high profile signing.
Expedentially - your just making words up now...

Argentine management just felt he was too dangerous to have in training and feared he would literally break Messi in half.

Lewis Carroll did that too...he coined (via Humpty Dumpty) the term 'portmanteau words' to describe blended words eg slithy means "slimy and lithe" and mimsy is "miserable and flimsy" .
Here, I think @Neiler has cunningly concocted a new portmanteau word 'expedentially' combining expediently with exponentially.....quite brilliant imo.

Dawsons Creek used a lot of big words too. A modern masterpiece of a show they'll still be talking about in 500 years
