Who from the squad should be starting games next season?
Pickford, Coleman, Gueye, Walcott, Sigurdsson
+
Who from the squad is good enough or at least has the potential to become a valuable starter next season?
Tosun, Mori, Klaassen (think he's been handled disgracefully)
+
Who from the squad should at the very least be given a chance to stake a claim for a start?
Lookman, Vlasic, Holgate, Onyekuru, Niasse
+
Who clearly won't / shouldn't be a starter but is useful backup?
Kenny, Baines, Keane, Davies, Beningime, DCL, Rooney (purely on account of the fact he won't be sold)
= keeping 20 players

Who needs binning off asap?
Williams, Jagielka, Mirallas, Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Sandro, Browning, Tarashaj, Galloway, Garbutt, Martina, Pennington, Besic, Stekelenburg, McCarthy, probably also Dowell
= 16 players gone

I make that only 5 players who stand out from our entire squad, plus three I count as having potential to break into the starting XI, and a handful of players who imo deserve the chance to show they have what it takes to be be in and around the starting XI.

I say we need at four starters in the summer: A left winger, a central midfielder, a left back, a centre back.

That's a squad size of 24 and only four brand new faces. Can't be too hard can it?
Agreed with pretty much everything and then got to this... yikes!

Dowell surely has a future at Everton mate? Quality player.

Lookman leaving with Bolaisse still not fit was an insane decision frankly.

It's gotta be Sig on the left with Rooney, Gana, Davies. If Coleman is healthy, it's a different team. He and Walcott would be difficult to deal with. Think you have to play Keane and Holgate.

Honestly, Rooney just played a bad match. If he's giving the ball away AND Davies is making more mistakes in their end than normal, it kills us. I would've brought on Tosun and Bolasie well before we conceded and moved Siggy central. Bolaise looked awful, but still think we at least get the draw if not a winner.

But either way, in the summer, we need to turn CB, LB, and CB into positives. Bin enough other players and we would have enough cash, but there is a LOT to bin.
I’m not having Rooney just having a bad game, he’s had more bad games than good imo, he’s not a midfielder and never will be.

Go back two years to the euros, he was shocking for England in midfield. However many players we buy in the Summer a top class centre midfielder is priority for me. Our midfield has been pants all season, have hardly strung 3 passes together.

And bolasie I would sell that clown for 5 mil in the summer, 25mil for someone who has 3 or 4 good games a season. He’s a championship level player.

Hence the "probably" mate - just noticed how he's dropped down the pecking order at Forest, and always thought he has a touch of Osman about in inasmuch as he's not the quickest and is also pretty slight in terms of size. I'd give him as much chance as DCL and Kenny to become a first team regular, which IMO isn't much.

Agree with most of that except Naisse
I know he’s scored a few goals and seems like a nice chap who runs hard
But seriously he is no where near the standard required for a top 6 club.

Half of these players are loaned out already, and there's no question that Mirallas and Besic for instance will never wear a blue shirt again.

Most on this list I can't say I'm that bothered whether we sell them or not as long as we get the first team right. Martina for instance : nothing wrong with his attitude or his consistency, he won't hide on the pitch like some players. He plays out of position without complaining week after week and gets nothing but stick. We need to strengthen so that we don't have to play him, but we could do worse than keep him in the squad.

I don't see the point in selling Jagielka. There's no money to be made. Allardyce doesn't know yet how far he can rely on Mori. Keane and Holgate can both benefit from having a figure like Jags supporting them. And even though Jagielka's had a poor season he's shown that he's still capable of great performances, he's still got something to offer on the pitch.

McCarthy is going nowhere because who wants to buy an injured player.
We need ( among others ) to buy a big dominant CB
A big unit of a leader
Someone who when he walks out on to the pitch the opposition say
Look at the size of that big Bar steward
But first and foremost he should be able to defend and organise a defence

Welcome to Everton, Christopher Samba.
I would like to give that post a like but unfortunately I know SFA about Mr Samba
I assume he has all the qualities I mentioned in a previous post.
I remember seeing a very young Kevin Campbell on a pre season tour of Ireland
By Christ the size of his neck and thighs frightened the life out of me

Yeah I think on reflection I would drop Sir Rooney to the bench for the next game after that performance and start with Sigurdsson and Klassen in the middle with Gana behind them. Walcott on one side and either Vlassic or Bolasie on the other with DCL up front. Perhaps DCL and Walcott would be pacy enough. really Lookman on the left but sadly not this year...
Davies and Niasse on in the second half. As Klassen cannot be fully match fit.
The defense doesn’t really matter in that with Coleman and Baines out its a crapshoot anyway.
On topic - the defense needs money spent more than other spots and then a big fast CF who can bang a few in.
I think I would start Tosun.

With those 3 in midfield we should be able to control possession better and that would allow us to get the best from Tosun.

My problem with DCL is that he just doesn't score enough.
