He is underrated imo. I don't rate him as a 10 but would be decent in Davies role. Good passer, tackler, interceptor, reads the game well.
Is he going to make the Everton Galactico some people may be thinking we're going to end up with, no.
Would he strengthen the midfield squad - imo there's no doubt.

On the Aussies, Matty Ryan def holds his own in the PL.
Slim pickings thereafter.
Rogic is overrated and wouldn't make it in prem.
Mile Jedinak is where he currently belongs.
Arzani, young fella signed for Celtic has potential but that's about it.
Sure, would still pick Timmy playing in India over any of them.

Not sure he's better than Davies, nor will he be by the end of the year. Mooy is SLOW. Gomes is also a massive improvement on both, so we certainly don't need him in January.

Piątek is an interesting shout. He's active, quicker than Tosun (no surprise there), but who knows if he's just on a hot streak or he's that capable. Does seem like a better fit of course. Certainly an upgrade over Niasse.

ie Mooy is much more difficult to get past than Davies.
For Cpt Davies fans, Mooy in the team would actually be a good marker, a focus, to get to and surpass

..he looks really dreadfully slow to me. We need pace and mobility aligned to quality.

Davies may never be good, but Mooy will never ever be good enough for what we are trying to achieve. And I’d imagine Huddersfield would want crazy money.
