Summer 2018 Transfer Window

..I try not to have a view on transfers but I hope a Cresswell saga doesn’t involve us. I think we need a change from small framed, lightweight defenders who will increasingly struggle with the power and physicality this league offers. Good footballer but I think we need something different.
I’m sure Marcel Brands was bought in to find left backs other than Cresswell who play in different leagues.
I think and hope we see a different attitude to who we buy this summer.
Agree on your opinion of Cresswell
Tierney who is so far not for moving is a better choice and that lad Sessonyon is more of a left winger now than a LB

I don’t think we’d go for premium English talent under Brands.

I could be wrong, but he seems to pick relatively unknown rough gems and develops them. That being the case, I expect we will have to patient with this route should it happen.

If Baines is out, I’d expect the age of the squad doesn’t appeal to Brands and particularly a Silva pressing team. We could see the older chaps exit first, adding more pace into the squad.

Commence the culling. x
Sack the feffin lot of them now

Well keep Pickford Coleman Holgate Gana Beni Walcott Lookman Siggy and a few others

I can't see Baines leaving unless he really wants to go. Having to buy two left backs could be difficult whereas buying one and letting him settle next season with Baines easing out of the team over the season would make more sense.
We would only need one LB if Baines leaves , we have Martina to slot in there as he has done before

Oh wait you’re right

..absolutely. Agree over Sessignon, he gets alongside the CF and scores goals so I can’t see him being a conventional LB.

Who’s this 22 year old Mexican, winger I think from PSV, any good, does anyone know?

....when Brands was appointed amid links of the super agent, I think it was @bluestevon who immediately suggested the Mexican winger would be a target. Suggest you watch the YouTube clips, he looks very talented and scores goals but clearly it’s a big step up to the Premiership.

He’s in the Mexico World Cup squad.

My belief is that the main problem is our midfield.

Bereft of pace, passing and dribbling ability. It needs a complete overhaul.

If we assume a 4-3-3 formation I can see a front 3 of Walcott, Lookman and Tosun/Niasse/DCL being OK for next season.

Midfield 3 needs additions and replacements.

One deep laying player, one all energy and 1 creative seems to be the modern blend.

Energy can be Gueye/Davies, if we buy someone then the player at Lille, Bissouma, looks a good bet.
Creative I'd like to add someone like Zivkovic - 21 year old plays for Serbia and Benfica. Used to be a winger, now a centre mid. Great dribbler and gettable. Dowell could also play that role.
Deep laying player needs to be a playmaker not just a destroyer. Fred from Shaktar would be be first choice but not realistic. William Carvalho would be available, does the role but has limitations.

Genuinely don't see Klaassen, Schneiderlin or Sigurdsson fitting into the formation. The £60m they'd, hopefully, raise would cover he cost of those additions and make the team younger.

Who would take them?
This is were we messed up even more last season, we bought players we got in such aas Sandro, Keane and Klaassen were ok, on the basis is someone will always be willing to give them another go, due to there age. We also then got in to many 28 + year olds who, if they didnt work out one way or another, no one in there right mind would think of buying

...Klaassen linked with a move to Italy today and it appears Sandro is wanted in Spain.

I'd rather have Baines as back-up to somebody like Tierney tbh. I think he's prime for that role and key to helping us compete on all fronts.

Can always go in January which would be the break before the MLS season anyway.
Wonder how highly Robinson is thought of as a potential back up? Might be part of the transition plan?

Who we can get and should be after:

This is so much Barkley and even better.

This is a priority signing if indeed he is one of our target.

We’ve been crying out for a ball carrying midfielder and it’s a MUST HAVE for any successful team.

Look at the clip, every passage of play consists of him taking out 2, 3, 4 and up to 5 opponent in a single run. This skill set is immense for a team playing counter attacking football. Spaces will open up as wide as a airplane tarmac every time he runs with the ball.

This signing is even more crucial than a pacy winger.

Please tel me we’re link with him mate, please.
