To be fair I’d probably rather pay £12m for Shaqiri than I would for a young lad from Hull who’s had one good season, or £20m+ for Maddison who again has had 1 good season in the championship, or £25m+ for Grealish who has no end product.

I know there will be better out there but £12m for a player of his talent is a bargain really.

The wages he’d be on though, drive down the bargain, additionally he’s too up and down for me to be relied upon.

I feel again with regards to an incoming winger/playmaker, they have to be hungry and eager to improve. I don’t think he has the appetite unless it’s a big occassion.

I think this idea of clubs owning or having a 'special relationship' with smaller clubs in different leagues is an interesting one perhaps inspired to correct the glaring deficiencies in the U23 system.
In the past the reserves provided young players with the opportunity to play against and alongside seasoned pros in a league that subsequently more closely resembled the conditions they would find in the first team. I think a lot of time young players from lower leagues are further advanced in their development due to having the opportunity to play first team football. Whereas the U23 s has the appearance of maintaining the players in a limbo of not quite good enough for first team football, it seems a false and arbitrary age group.
Going out on loan is obviously the alternative but while it gives the players a chance of open age football you also hand over their development to others and often by virtue of only being on loan they lose out to the clubs own players.
In lieu of re instating the much superior reserve team system, the option of owning another club in which to ensure your young players can continue their development under your control in adult leagues must seem an attractive one.

No to Gibson.

Was just having a look at Middlesbrough fans' reaction on Twitter to the news and they're made up to get £15m - said he's been band average and Ayala is their best defender.
Take with a pinch of salt mate.
What do you think Jamie Vardy's previous club's fans were saying when Leicester bought him? I can't imagine any guessed he'd become a 20 pl goal a season man.

Grosicki? He’s still Hull player, he’s 30 years old and he’s horribly inconsistent. Not a Premier League player.
That's the one must of just been in good form at the time i didn't realise he was that old seemed rapid to me ha

On one had if we could get Gibson in and give them Besic plus whatever we received for Mori and we’d have arguably improved our defensive options.

On the other hand we could sell Besic for £5m and Brands could add that to the Mori money and get someone better than Gibson in.

I think the latter is the better option.

What has he ever done to warrant such transfer fee? He is a Championship defender and no PL team came close to get him after he went down with his current club.

According to Twitter they can only have 3 non EU players. Which they already have. They reckon a Columbian defender will go, but they are buying another Brazilian. And I can’t see them selling coutinho or paulinho.

Im pretty sure Coutinho has a spanish/portuguese passport, excluding him from the none EU quota.
