Summer transfer speculative hopes and dreams

loving the meltfest reaction to shakiri on here. brilliant player, like i said before, but he has an attitude problem. i don't think he's the type martinez would be interested in but apparently no other team is allowed to buy players that are better than what we have.

we also don't have to buy every name under the sun when they're available - and then sell a positional equivalent for about £10m less.
It will be a long summer.....

Wish we'd make some Pjanic buys.

Have to admit I'm a bit surprised a deal for a CB hasn't been finalized. I wonder if Martinez is intentionally being patient so he has a chance to assess Browning and Galloway in training to see where they stand.

That said, I won't pretend to know how long it takes a player to get comfortable with a new system and new teammates.

Imagine signing Shaqiri, Mertens and Deulofeu for less than Firmino though, just imagine.

And here we discussing the merits of 2 very talented footballers, at Everton, its surreal.

I know neither are in the ELITE group of players, but they are both highly rated footballers with bags of European and International expericence, dizzy days indeed.

Does seem a bit too good to be true, being linked with players of this quality. Whether there's anything in it is another thing, but I'd be buzzing with either one

The transfer windows only been open for half a day, plenty of time left

I dont think Martinez panic buys at all.

I think he has a list of targets, he scouts these targets, he does background checks on his targets and then he probably makes inquiries for a price, wages etc.

Thats the least I expect from a Manager buying players worth millions of somebody elses money.

Sometimes the players "fail" the background checks, yano, late for training, seen out in clubs when they shouldnt, generally a bit of an arse, so it goes no further, silly transfer fees, silly wage demands and then we probably walk away and move on to the next target, we aint Chelsea, City, PSG, we dont ALWAYS get our first target, but the Manager isnt stupid and neither are the scouts, its not like they would waste time scouting Messi for example.

Sometimes we probably have our eye on a player, but as is NORMALLY the Everton way, if we can save a few 000k on wages by waiting for the last day, we will do that, if we can get a few more million out of United by waiting till the last hour, we will do that also.

It doesnt mean they are panic buys, I doubt Martinez has EVER made a panic buy, he doesnt strike me as the type, clearly he signs players that are a risk, sometimes they work, Besic, sometimes they dont, Atsu.

We probably have a passing interest on a number of player currently, most wont get past the "how much you want mates" stage, a few will get to the background checks and then the odd 1 will probably go as far as asking for wage demands.

Only a stupid manager keeps all his eggs in the 1 basket, for all his faults, Martinez isnt stupid.
I don't think he panic buys either but he definitely panic loans :) when he has exhausted his list.

The point I am making is at 12m Shaqiri provides good value for money so if he doesn't go for him but instead waits to see if he can get another target which doesn't happen then he has made a mistake.

He doesn't definitely panic loans, Atsu has talent (ACON player of tournament) it just never worked out. He might be good in a league more suited to him.

Traore wasn't a panic loan, you have to take into account the other factors.. He added a different option in our attack and Martinez just took the risk of him avoiding injuries which he obviously never. What other strikers are available for loan in January?

Just because loans don't work out, doesn't mean they are panic loans.

I think they where panic buys and surely lack of availability is the very definition of a panic buy. I don't think Atsu was our first choice, I don't think Atsu was our 5th choice.

It was obvious from very early on Martinez didn't rate him since he never gave him a chance unlike say someone like McGeady. If he wasn't a panic buy I think he would have stuck by him more than what he did.
