I just said people have all these names, either from playing them on FM or FIFA and they have no idea of other, very talented players that are just off radar, like you with Prayet, you heard his name and suddenly he was the bestest player in the world, he clearly wasnt our target tho.




What if I told you he wont sign a playmaker, what if I told you hes gonna play 4-3-3, without a number 10.

Not saying everyone does but some people do watch other leagues other than the prem mate, but agree with you mostly half of people do see a fancy or foreign name and jump on the wagon.

I like that, but I think RM has brought in Cleverly to be a regular starter and we all know Gareth Barry will still be first name on the sheet, even when he needs a zimmer frame to get around the pitch.

Not sure where Barkley is going to fit in now TBH... nice problem for us to have though for a change.

Don't think Barry will be starting that many games this year. As others have said, it seemed he knew he expected to be rested a lot more and was only playing because Gibson was out

Everton have made an enquiry on Belgian winger Dries Mertens (Napoli). Not sure if he’s #EFC’s priority target. Contacts have been confirmed

McCarthy wasn't a panic buy. It was just late on in the window but that was more to do with fleecing Utd for as much money as they could.

Lukaku was a panic buy that fell into our lap when we went to enquire about Demba Ba. I think it was Demba Ba.

We got lucky then and since then we have panic bought or loaned Traore and Atsu.

I don't know what you suggested. All I said was that Martinez doesn't panic buy well. You seemed to be arguing against that point but if that's not the case then I'm at a loss to know what you meant.

I never thought Payet was anything. I thought his stats looked amazing which they do and many people have him as their best player in France but wasn't overly concerned when we missed out on him.

I don't play FIFA or FM. I watch a load of Champions League games, La Liga and a bit of Italy. If we don't sign Shaqiri because the club don't fancy him then I genuinely hope they're right. From what I've seen I think they're wrong but I haven't followed him to the degree they have so I guess we will only find out next season.

I just think he's only 23 and for 12m that's a great price.

Going 4-3-3 could work but that's going to require playing Cleverly and Barkley as ACMs.

No neither are meticulously planned hence the fact that they are panic buys.

They're all luck. Some work, most don't.

Issue is we are quickly running out of viable options. Firmino, Shaqiri, Mertens even Wijnaldum is being linked with CL clubs we really need to stop messing about signing squad players and get this vital cog signed up, then worry about RB and CB cover players

I dont think Martinez panic buys at all.

I think he has a list of targets, he scouts these targets, he does background checks on his targets and then he probably makes inquiries for a price, wages etc.

Thats the least I expect from a Manager buying players worth millions of somebody elses money.

Sometimes the players "fail" the background checks, yano, late for training, seen out in clubs when they shouldnt, generally a bit of an arse, so it goes no further, silly transfer fees, silly wage demands and then we probably walk away and move on to the next target, we aint Chelsea, City, PSG, we dont ALWAYS get our first target, but the Manager isnt stupid and neither are the scouts, its not like they would waste time scouting Messi for example.

Sometimes we probably have our eye on a player, but as is NORMALLY the Everton way, if we can save a few 000k on wages by waiting for the last day, we will do that, if we can get a few more million out of United by waiting till the last hour, we will do that also.

It doesnt mean they are panic buys, I doubt Martinez has EVER made a panic buy, he doesnt strike me as the type, clearly he signs players that are a risk, sometimes they work, Besic, sometimes they dont, Atsu.

We probably have a passing interest on a number of player currently, most wont get past the "how much you want mates" stage, a few will get to the background checks and then the odd 1 will probably go as far as asking for wage demands.

Only a stupid manager keeps all his eggs in the 1 basket, for all his faults, Martinez isnt stupid.

loving the meltfest reaction to shakiri on here. brilliant player, like i said before, but he has an attitude problem. i don't think he's the type martinez would be interested in but apparently no other team is allowed to buy players that are better than what we have.

we also don't have to buy every name under the sun when they're available - and then sell a positional equivalent for about £10m less.
