Summer transfer speculative hopes and dreams

The fact we signed Cleverley, Henen, Deulofeu and signed Garbutt up before July 1st should tell you how they're approaching it.

They've done a great job this window, yes, but I was specifically referring to the situation at CB. How many bodies (and of what quality) do they feel they need for preseason training, and for preseason friendlies? Does Martinez have a plan he intends on pursuing regardless of what happens over the next few weeks, or will that plan change based on what he sees from Browning and Galloway? Etc.

Just cant see us getting shaqiri even if we have enquired.
I can picture the rs, spurs or even west ham swooping in of he comes availible offering abit more money and getting him just to stop is strengthening. Similar to what chelsea did with salah

Oh well i was thinking to high end with spurs, rs n west ham haha

Some great bargains to be had in the market at the moment if the rumours are anything to go by.

Mertens Or Shaqiri in and around the 10-12m region would be fantastic value for money.

I would like to see us go for Cabaye at 10m, he would be perfect alongside McCarthy. Absolutely runs games from centre mid, something we haven't had for a while.

I will go for Shaqiri surely. He is only 23/24 and will have massive potential on his sell on value. Mertens is 28 and Cabaye is 30. They are good players but I won't consider them now cos they have no-resale value after a season or two.

I agree but these days 10m-12m for a player is nothing, especially of that calibre. Them 2 players alone could be enough for us to get champs league football where they will have paid for themselves twice over.

Also I think we have a lot of youth in the team and we could do with a mix of experience without it having to come from players like Barry who are close to over the hill.

CBA with people who go on and on about resale value, proper obsessed about it christ. If the player will improve us NOW who's arsed? Cause im not. Mertens is 28 ffs, hardly old.

In the prime of his career, just had a terrific season at Napoli. Brings top-level experience and is a team player as well. If we had Shaqiri and Del/Kev in the same side, we'd get wripped apart.

If we get Mertens, I could feasibly see Kev staying if we can get McGeady out of the door and a CB on the cheap.

If we got Shaqiri, then I'd imagine Kev will be sold. Too many 'luxury' players I'd have thought. Yes on paper it would be class, just don't think it'd work out.

Then again we could end up with Maloney.

I can slighly understand the concern if the player has had a poor injury history as if that hasn't cleared up by 27/28 it is very unlikely it ever will.

But otherwise a team is generally best if it has players across the age spectrum - some youngsters for enthusiasm and unpredictability, the bulk in the peak 25-30 years and then a few older veterans who have seen it all before and can provide on field guidance to the youngsters.

Very exciting window so far
As far as experience goes. Surely it depends on the player. These days players last a lot longer too.
