Summer Transfer Window 2017

The Red Echo this morning running with the "we want Jordan pickford but won't pay 30 million asking price" stuff.

Apparently we've already made a bid of.........8 million LOL

Bids like that are setting the parameters of negotiations. They want 30, we bid 8, agree a fee og 15-18 mill.

The leverage is sunderland will be doing sums and seeing a massive drop in revenue, but will have to invest themselves.

Makes sense to me.

Yes. Had top assists for our team before he got injured.

Incredibly frustrating player, but could always pull a cross out of nowhere, and that's what strikers feed off after all, no?

Two can play this game.

Yes he was. No he's not.

Also boys, the money we spent on him wasn't insane, in a summer where a bang average defender who looks fancy while making defensive errors went for 50. Maybe a bit over the top? Yup. Did we do it to ourselves by waiting and all that? Yup. Stop making it like we've paid 3000000000 million for him for gods sake. 26 mil, so what, we had it, we paid it. Not like we blew all our transfer money on him. He proved to be frustrating, but useful.
I love you mate, you know that, but I will have to respectfully disagree.

He's awful. He didn't improve us, he isn't good enough for where we are supposed to be aiming.

A little bit off topic, but not worthy of its own thread as i can't be arsed writing enough to make one.

I believe the new board + owner mean generally naff all in terms of 'competing' with the top clubs.

We have more money and certainly seem to be better ran than before. All these ideas of spending 100s of millions or paying obscene wages i think are a little wide of the mark and the club itself is not 'better off' or 'rich' as we would like to think we are. I do think we are in a position to essentially be on a level playing field now and be able to spend a bit extra on the overpriced players in the market these days. So in terms of financial benefits, i can see us being essentially Everton, not spending a fortune and just being able to outspend the teams below us on the whole. 7th best and all of that, but with the right signings we can punch above the 7th best and compete more.

So the club will still scrimp, will still be crap negotiating for players who need to get a direct approach instead, will still look for bargains rather than stars (more so with walsh here) and things won't have changed at all in that sense, just being able to sign players for money will be a big improvement considering we recently topped up signings with frees and loans if we spent on one or two players.

If we have gone in with an 8 mill bid for Pickford then thats just a waste of time. Fair enough you go in a bit lower than you want to pay but that just seems really low to me when Bournemouth are prepared to pay 10 mill for a below average 30 year old who hasnt played regularly for 2 years. At the same time Sunderland asking for 30 is a way of sunderland saving face having slashed our wage bill by and giving us 8 mill for Gibbo, Oviedo and Pienaar. If we are really interested would have thought we would pay around 18-20 with clauses that we will never pay on like an extra 5 mil when Pickford keeps his 150th prem clean sheet with us. That way Sunderland can sell it as a 25mil transfer from their end when in reality its 18-20 mil to pay for a player that will hopefully fill a position for us for the next 10 plus years.
In reality though no-one knows anything regarding Everton at the minute, the club is very much a closed shop with no-one really proving any itk status. I can understand people getting anxious but the only people doing any business of any real note so far are City. The rest of whats being reported are signings of a bunch of no-marks. If Koeman was honestly concerned about how things were going he would walk because he needs to do a good job with us to springboard him into the Barca job in the future and he has shown he is very single minded about how he wants to progress. Im sure that there will be some signings this summer that we get excited about, equally im sure there will be some head scratchers but all we can do is go with the flow and hope we land some of the bigger names we go after and continue to improve both on and off the pitch. There is honestly no point in losing our heads at this stage though (having said all of this though I will absolutely fume if Iheanacho ends up at West Ham).

Also , i know there is zero chance of it happening but signing Marhez could well be a masterstroke if the club could pull it off. former player of the year, better than what we have in that position and in reality will end up either at Arsenal or a champions league club.

Might be worth pursuing that deal for the marquee signing that the club will want to bring in. Worst case scenario is that we haven't got a chance but i don't think we have anyway, worth asking and seeing how far we get.

Not awful though, see Niasse for awful. At least he made things happen every so often ffs!

Key word is useful. I find him a very 50/50 player with little to no consistency, but at least he's determined to try and try again, and Naismith was loved for that despite not having legs and being literally transparent (and even worse - Scottish), at least he has some football skill and can definitely cross a ball.

And can we also pay him in burgers?

Fancy a bum mate? xx

Absolutely agree with this mate. I don't mind this approach too much, particularly in terms of unearthing potential gems, so long as we are assertive when it comes to getting in some bigger targets.
