Summer Transfer Window 2017

I would love us to go straight in for Keane and VVD the moment the window opens.
If we have any real chance of challenging next season and convincing the likes of Lukaku to stay, we do that by strengthening with players who will make an immediate difference to the 1st team. Get them in and get them ready with a full pre season.

I hope Everton get deals done early.

the thing is, our defence is very strong, one of the best in the division, i think we can get by by buying just the 1 centre back. Even though we've scored a lot, we need to share the burden on lukaku, we definitely need a good backup striker, that's more of a priority than a centre back for me, despite being a bench player. An attacking mid playmaker is the top of our priority list imo and then another attacker to bring goals as we don't have any possible goalscoring attackers who will get double figures outside of lukaku.

Agree 100% on the playmaker. But we defo do need a top Central defender. If we deem that Funes Mori isnt good enough (which is my view) then we need a second too and thus us where your Gibsons/Keanes come into it

oh yeah, we'll get someone in. i think williams, mori, jagielka and holgate with galloway, browning and pennington also as possibilities, that's more than enough to partner our new centre back.

When you look at lukaku's backup of niasse & valencia (probably be gone), DCL and Kone - that's why i view that as a higher priority.

Agree 100% on back up striker too. And back up left back.

I think Jagielka will be gone in the summer and can only see one of Pennington Galloway and Browning being here beyond next season. So if RK does believe Mori isnt good enough I think he'll need replacing too.

I agree.

Assuming we don't have tons of money to spend I think focussing on improving our goal output will benefit us far more than buying 2 pricey centre backs. It's the lack of goals, other than Lukaku which is stopping us from competing with the teams above us.

Going for wins in games will benefit us more than earning a few draws instead of defeats through having an even better defence.

they've conceded less than arsenal.

Yes and he has been the one constant in that defence. The Boro fan on here raved about him. While he doesn't look as big and imposing as Keane he looks a really organiser. I think getting them both in, at the age they are at could be like when we got Jagielka and Lescott a decade ago. I'd be very pleased with this.

I asked for both last summer or Lewis Dunk.

Keane looks the real deal - Gibson (when I've seen him - which is only a few times tbf) looks a level below him

Ideal pairing would be Keane and VVD though, be a absolutely top class pairing of those two - which is why it'd set anyone back about 70m quid as well lol

IF we can shift Mori to Italy or Spain and bring in Keane for not that much of a difference in price - it'd be superb business mind

Fair play mate, I agree on VVD I'm just not sure it's possible. I have seen Gibson a little and do quite like him, he seems a good organiser however it was up against Lukaku.

VVD will depend on a few things mate, if we go into the summer and immediately look like we are setting out to make a massive statement of intent (not by signing some name but by doing a big number of high quality deals early) then the Koeman connection could swing him over.

also depends on if other teams have him as their priority target or as a fall back option should they not get the one they want - maybe that would put us ahead of them

and how we finish the season - limping home in 7th or finishing really strongly and pushing the 4th spot all the way (or even getting it)

United seem to be getting linked with several quality cb's ahead of him, City similarly, as are Chelsea, the rs won't pay what they want - despite the media trying to big up that transfer, Arsenal are in an utter mess and Spurs don't need him, there is every chance we could get him if we go in early and with an amount that Saints would want.

VVD isn't at the calibre of team we would struggle to get him away from (say like a CL regular like Napoli) and his stock isn't that high Internationally that we'd end up trying to compete with someone way above us in attracting players from abroad either.

If we are being ambitious but also trying to get players who are attainable I would like to see the following:
VVD - just have a feeling that he is going to sign, despite the fact everyone will be in for him.
Keane
One of Creswell/Robertson/Sessegnon
Tielemens
Rooney

Squad then padded out by youngsters coming up and a few gems bought like this lad from Forest we are after and George Hirst. I still think we will be in for Pickford as well but with the form of Joel I reckon that he could be left at S'land for the year to keep getting game time.
