I don't think he's been excellent the past 3 seasons..one of which he was injured for more than half of.

when he came back from injury last season S'ton went on a 9/10 game unbeaten run keeping six consecutive clean sheets.

He was excellent in Koeman's first season (as I showed with the stats from earlier) and impressive in his first season under Poch as well.

He's miles better than what we have currently and is currently a better keeper than Pickford - though Pickford certainly has a higher ceiling and I would still like to think he'd be our no.1 target.

Don't think Gylffi would be a bad addition, but losing Ross? That sounds painful but I think him and Rom have a pact to leave this summer.

Yep

And tbf we had our fingers burned last summer by pursuing targets who were out of our league as far as our current status is concerned

This summer Koeman and Walsh have had time to analyse our squad properly and identify where we need to strengthen. Also there appears to be an acknowledgement that the really established stars are mostly out of our reach currently, so going after the prospective stars at clubs with less financial muscle than us makes total sense.

It's encouraging because it makes me think we really have learned lessons

Seems a better strategy but it would be even better if having brought a few of those types in we still had a go at one or two established class players. Nothing to lose and if we do bring in Sandro/Klaassen it may take them a little time to settle.

@irishblue7 @MorgsGoat yeah that was the guy, Shez something. I knew I wasn't making it up. If I can be bothered scrolling back far enough tomorrow, I'll find the tweet tomorrow but if Forster comes off, he was right ages ago like.

Might not be popular, but Gylfi is a better player than Ross. Sure Ross is younger and all that, but he's not developed to the class everyone thought and I doubt he ever will. Would love for Gylfi to join up. 35mil rumored Swans want seems extremely high though.

Gylfi would be a massive improvement on Barkley and a major upgrade.

I just don't sense Barkley leaving would be 'painful' at all. He's not good enough and he doesn't want to commit himself to us so he can go.

I'm just completely ambivalent to his departure.
