Summer Transfer Window 2017

He's not a striker no, but Koeman's often referred to him as a forward and it's clear that Ross has stalled as a midfielder in recent years.

When played deep, he often dallies. When played as a 10, he's too often got his back to goal.

In the 4-3-3/3-4-3/(or wide in a 4-2-3-1) he has space and the freedom to drift inside. The issue against certain teams is they'd double up on him and our crap movement from midfield meant he didn't have a pass on.
I cant believe I'm hearing this.
Season before last he posted his best GS and assist figures. Last season it was claimed by almost everyone that Barkley had been transformed into a much more rounded out player.

Now he's 'lost his way' in order to make his departure seem like a good thing.

No.

I've never said he's lost his way, or that him leaving will be good.

I want him to stay.

But I don't think - in how Koeman sets up - that he's as effective in midfield. Last season proved this.

He improved his stats and all-round play consistently when he was pushed further forward.

Koeman likes his creativity to come from wide areas with support from the midfield (which is why Klaassen has been prioritised).

In a 4-3-3, the wingers are forward players. Hence, Barkley - if he stays - will, more often than not, depending on the oppo, play as a forward.

If Barkley stays he would be the most advanced of the midfield trio.

Barkley needs to be capable of playing more roles. He needs to be able to play wide in a 433, across the 3 off the forward in the 4231, and in midfield when there's 3 at the back. He can't just simply say I play off a lonely striker and that's it. He needs to bring more balance to his game. Lack of discipline dogs his career. It looks like a mental thing.

Where do you think his best position is? Martinez and koeman seemed to have tried him in a number of positions, maybe that's partly to blame for his inconsistency.

Why are we so lightning in the transfer market this summer? Just shows how horrendously slow we were with the previous regime.

I think one change is that now we can push our own dominoes, and don't need to wait on someone else to get the action started.

He slotted brilliantly into that wide right position from Jan onwards.
