Summer Transfer Window 2017

I would be quite happy with Benteke if we can't tempt Giroud, he obviously fits RK's mould. The only reason he is disliked is because of the teams he's recently played for. He scored 1 in 2 in the prem, if he'd come from Milan or Juve or something people would be all over it, it just doesn't SOUND as good being a RS reject and more recently a Palace bottom 6 fighter. I don't think Dzeko had that kind of return for city (although I think he was mainly a sub?), he just sounds more prestigious on our transfer list. Plus Benteke is only 26, not even in his prime, if it takes Koeman 6 months to get him up to speed with our new style he could be bringing us 15-20 for years to come. Especially if the 30M mark is accurate. Bargain in this silly window. 10 goals shouldn't be worth 60 extra million

Palace paid £32m last year.

So no. We aren't gonna get him for £30m.

Well, Lahm just retired at 33. Alonso at 35. Mertesacker is retiring next year at 33.

Different players isn't it.

Dzeko and Giroud have never relied on pace, like, so I don't think it's as much of an issue. Though look how sharply RVP declined once he hit the 32/33 mark...
Didn't rvp have quite a few injuries that finished him off

Wouldn't say they are marginally better, they are miles better.

And benteke will decline just as bad, don't forget he did his Achilles which you never fully recover from, he's already basically a statue atm

Not sure on that.

Dzeko, yeh, he's a step above, but I actually think Giroud and Benteke are on a similar level.

Benteke isn't this crock people seem to think he is either. Properly motivated he's an excellent striker and would be a great signing. But for the fee that I'd imagine Palace would want, I can't see us getting him.

Benteke is injury prone and Palace will demand a fortune. And that's even before you consider the fact they've just brought in a new manager and would be reluctant to start his tenure by shipping out his star striker. Surely we can come up with a better target.

He had one or two in that 13/14 season, yeh, and of course they didn't help. But his form literally fell off a cliff.

Giroud has had a few bad injuries has he not?

Btw, I wouldn't be against signing either Dzeko or Giroud. They'd be my primary targets.

But Benteke wouldn't be the worse alternative in the world if we're looking for PL experience in that position.

I think we might go get somebody not linked so far, though.

Has he had a bad injury since being at Palace? I can't remember one. Wasn't it just the one from Liverpool?

He isn't injury prone though.

His last injury was in March 2016. He missed seven games with ligament damage.

Before that, he'd had an injury in November 2015, and then before that he suffered an injury-hit campaign in 13/14 - so two seasons previous.

Apart from that he's been fully fit all of his career. The issue with Benteke has always been his motivation.

When he - and to an extent Zaha - found form in the back end of last season, Palace improved.

Anyway, I don't think we'll get him, so this is all probably a moot point.

I dunno. De Boer said he wants Palace playing the Ajax way. Pretty sure they don't be have a lump up front. Or do they? Hipsters will tell you.

Either way, don't really want him. I did at one point though.

Total football = Crystal palace, doesn't quite have the right ring to it

This is what I wanted to say!

I think 35m or there abouts and it's a great deal. Less than half of the price of Lukaku, a proven Premiership performer, loves a goal with his head but can use his feet too. Very physical, could complement our other forwards nicely.

But he's never been properly motivated and I'd doubt he'd start now. He's the laziest striker in the league, he just doesn't look arsed no matter where he's been

But surely he would cost way more than that? Palace paid the best part of 30m for him and the market has gone mad

Let's just pay £45 million each for Benteke and Sigurdsson. Bring in a decent utility defender for £10 million and sell Ross for £30 mill. Get rid of Niasse and Stek for whatever we can get.

Leaves us with a squad that is infinitely better for a total summer outlay of about £60 million.

Suppose - if we did indeed bring him in - then Koeman would be confident he could motivate him properly.

I'm still not convinced we're actually seriously interested though.
