Summer Transfer Window 2017

I'm gonna put myself out there a little bit and say that my biggest issue with the arguments on this forum is that everyone seems to think they are qualified to scout football players. As if sitting on the couch and watching footy means you know more than professional football scouts and managers (where even the best in the world maybe only get 50% of their transfers right to begin with). And everything is so black and white. Players are either crap or world class. Or because they performed a certain way for one team, they are only capable of performing at a similar level for another team, totally ignoring all the factors that can determine how well a player fits in with a club.

I wish we could all be a little more honest and admit that none of us really know what decisions the club should be making. I certainly don't have a clue. My only ongoing hope is that whatever the club ends up doing, it brings us more success and better football. Honestly lads, you'll save yourself a lot of stress if you're willing to look at it this way.

By the way, I realize the above statement kind of goes against the whole purpose of a fan forum in the first place - I don't really expect people to stop posting their opinions and having healthy debates. Just had to get it off my chest. COYB. ;)
Boooooooo :)

343 - won the league for Chelsea
433 (false nine) won Spain the World Cup and euros... I distinctly remember fabregas being played "as a striker".

The "BS" formations you talk about is the only nonsense.

If the players SUIT the system... the formation is irrelevant.

You effectively counter your opponents. They play with 2 in the middle... throw 3 in the middle and overrun them. The fundamental formation is nothing without the player instructions that go with them.

You could play 10 at the back if you ONLY needed 1 point and scrap for a draw. Quit your moaning.
Chelsea and Spain. Oh, ok. It'll be great playing it then with us because of all of our world class players.

20mil for Dembele in today's market ?? Absolute snip if you ask me, potential and subsequent sell on value would be astronomical(although we arent a selling club these days) !

Absolutely.Strange one.

Unless he wants to return to France,I'm amazed that every single Premiership club aren't trying to get him at that price.

Wouldn't have thought Marseille would be matching Premiership wages either.

"Players (that) suit the system" we'll play to our strengths. You're REALLY good at reading between the lines.

World class players do not guarantee success. Players that have the desire, grit and determination to do well more times then none do well.

Fighting back from 1-0 down to win. That kinda stuff. There's more to football than talent.

"Hard work beats talent, if talent doesn't work hard"

World class players have desire and determination in abundance.

Celtic would command a higher fee from a Premier League club.

And maybe the fact that no PL clubs are as of yet in for him suggests that they don't think he's able to make the step up?

I'd say 20+ scouts over the league know more than us...

EDIT: I'm not convinced on this anyway. All along, the only outlet that has pedalled the 'Marseille want Dembele' story is Sky, first with a vague 'exclusive' a month back, and now this. We'll see.

Very debateable.

Edit -

It certainly depends how you equate "World Class"... because I would have only players with talent, and the correct mentality in that category. Now, there are some VERY talented footballers who don't have the correct attitude.

I cant say world class but to give examples.

Royston Drenthe - incredibly talented... absolute idiot.
Andy Van Der Mayde - Above + numerous habits.
Mario Balotelli - Attributes to be great.

A prime example of the kind of mentality I want Everton players to have is if you look accross the park back to Istanbul. That was heroic. It pains me to say it. Never say die. I want Everton players to fight. To never back down, to never give up.

That mentality is instilled firstly by the fans. The Davek's of the fan base do not help.

...apologies for being a little late this morning, 3 full drinking days including a late one yesterday at The Open are my excuse. Anyway, a round up of rumours for this Monday morning;

- According to the Daily Express, Everton are close to reaching a compromise with Swansea for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. The paper says the Toffee's will pay £40m plus £5m add-ons as well as £90k per week for the 27 year old.

- The Express also reports that Arsenal are leading the race for Everton's Ross Barkley. Like Spurs, though, Arsenal are unwilling to pay Everton's £50m valuation or the players £150k per week wage demands.

- Also in the Express is an Everton link with Leicester City striker, Islam Slimani. The paper suggests Everton might go for Slimani if they fail in their pursuit of Olivier Giroud.

- 4th Official say Everton are looking at Vitesse Arnhem keeper, Eloy Room. The 28 year old Curacao nternational has played 155 games for Vitesse.

- The Croydon Advertiser reports Everton have joined Crystal Palace in pursuit of Senegal international, Badou N'Diaye. The midfielder plays for Osmanlispor and West Ham are also keen on the 27 year old.

- The Daily Mirror says Everton want £7.7m Hull winger, Kamil Grosicki.

Did you get to meet the lads @Eggs?

That's my point. I don't think many would class drenthe as world class do you?

...I didn't, Matey. Saw the pictures of them on the screen. Funny that a couple of Americans by us were wondering who they were and then one said "that's Wayne Rooney, the soccer player". Just shows he's a global name. I watched Tommy Fleetwood go through the 4th and 14th and it was nice to see fellow Evertonian, Tony Bellew following him around every hole.

Just to add, it looked like Alex Bruce was with Rooney & co which I thought was a bit odd.
