Summer Transfer Window 2017

I'm gonna put myself out there a little bit and say that my biggest issue with the arguments on this forum is that everyone seems to think they are qualified to scout football players. As if sitting on the couch and watching footy means you know more than professional football scouts and managers (where even the best in the world maybe only get 50% of their transfers right to begin with). And everything is so black and white. Players are either crap or world class. Or because they performed a certain way for one team, they are only capable of performing at a similar level for another team, totally ignoring all the factors that can determine how well a player fits in with a club.

I wish we could all be a little more honest and admit that none of us really know what decisions the club should be making. I certainly don't have a clue. My only ongoing hope is that whatever the club ends up doing, it brings us more success and better football. Honestly lads, you'll save yourself a lot of stress if you're willing to look at it this way.

By the way, I realize the above statement kind of goes against the whole purpose of a fan forum in the first place - I don't really expect people to stop posting their opinions and having healthy debates. Just had to get it off my chest. COYB. ;)

Valid point mate
But what do we talk about instead.
I come on here to forget all the daily grind.
It's like the pub without beer

I dont think it's any coincidence that the steam ran out of our transfer window once the Lukaku cash came in and cleared the spending tab run up to that point.

I believe another big exit will be required to trigger the next bit of spending.

Okay Dave

Good chance we're gonna spend £40m+ on Gylfi this week, but okay, we'll see.

We're in 'negative' net spend anyway, for this window, so I don't see how it's an issue.

That's why I stated 'he's pretty inexperienced"...all the experience he needs for that pony league, but not the PL.

*sigh*
Then why say we should sign him
So the only strikers we should sign in your opinion are Giroud and a kid from in your words a no mark jarg league and you spout on as though you know a bit about football
Up your game a bit Dave
Your time on the sidelines has left you rusty

Sigursson is slowly edging towards a conclusion it seems but we do seem as if we are far away about adding a striker, that big unit up front !! So will we go into Europa cup as a 4/3/3 line up with Rooney in the middle ? Still need a left sided centre half or is that a priority ? Is Connolly capable enough of stepping into that role ? I know there's still a lot of time to go to the end of the current window but I had hoped our business might have been over early and have a full settled squad especially with the tough run of games we have

I honestly think we've done well to get the amount in we already have with minimum of fuss. I'd say if we can get Gylfi in before PL seasons starts along with a left sided defender which can cover both positions that would be great. A target man seems to be the hardest one to sort out so that might run right up until the wire.

I'd like to see Barkley shipped out for 30million, Sigurdsson brought in for 40-45million then sign as good a striker as we can get with whatever money we may have left available. Even if we spend another 75million total, our net spend won't be very big at all (about 35million) and we'll probably be spending another 10-15million a year on wages. For a club like us that's a lot, so I'd be made up if that was our final dealings this summer. Net spend isn't everything after all.
