Summer Transfer Window 2017

I've seen a few people on Twitter already complaining that Willian Jose's 'only scored 10 league goals this season so he's not good enough'. It's worth noting that he's scored 10 in 22 in La Liga for Sociedad having missed a couple of months through injury.

I don't think it's just the goals that Koeman is just looking for. Yes, course you need strikers that score goals but Koeman likes a CF that can get an hold of the ball up top and bring our better, more creative players into the game in the areas they can do damage. Look at Pelle's stats before joining Koeman first at Feyenoord, his goal scoring stats weren't great but it's what he brought to the team as a target man that Koeman and his way of playing benefited more from, plus he ended up scoring more goals under Koeman and in his system.

So Willian Jose could be that type Koeman is looking for?!

The thing is Lukaku isn't a Koeman type centre forward and as others have said we play largely to his game.

If we sign someone like Willian Jose then for me he'll revert more to his 4-3-3 next season imo. His Pelle type forward to hold the ball up (Jose) his Tadic type creative player wide left (Sigurdsson?) And then a Mane type pacey forward wide right.

Possibly why Koeman isn't massively concerned if we lose Ross as he may already think Gueye, Schneiderlein and Davies are to be first choice midfield 3.

Thats because he has never been able to bring in a £70 million plus striker, so he uses other types to get results.

This a new type of job for koeman too, its a level up from where he has been playing, and he is not going to go for cloggers now he csn afford not too.

Grim if we replace lukaku with basically 10 goals a season target man never getting top 4

On the flip side though, we've not exactly amounted to anything with Lukaku's goals yet have we?!....

We still hold all the cards with Lukaku, we can still get another season out of him and if we haven't made the CL or won a cup then we can sell him then at a good price still, but IF we have seriously kicked on then he may stay? It depends on what Koeman is thinking ahead of next season, do we sell now or do we go again with him?!

But this season Koeman as got the goals spread out through the team again and were up there with the best in the league for having the most goal scorers in the team but if we add more quality to it through out then we may go on and get more goals and create more chances.

Bakumbu and Willian Jose look like signings Stoke or WBA would be making.

If we sold lukaku and replaced him with these two it would be soul destroying.

Dolberg at Ajax for example is already showing more than these two....Willian Jose has done nothing in his career and changes clubs every season.

I don't think it's the intention to replace Lukaku with Willian Jose. Koeman wants numbers and competition up front and he also likes a target man that can get an hold of the ball and link the play which this Willian Jose can do. I keep on banging on about Pelle but look at his career upon working with Koeman, he flitted from club to club, didn't get many goals but then Koeman made him a player and got the best out of him and the way Koeman wanted to play, and the style of Pelle, it all just seemed to fit...

Koeman brought in Austin for the same style. We'll definitely go for a target man rather than a pacey Lukaku/Vardy type running beyond defences this summer imo.

That's exactly how it is, although he's more inclined to accommodate Lukaku in his preferred systems has he's a goal scorer but your right about the Barkley part. I don't think he'd be all that arsed if he left, I really don't. He says he's key and wants him to stay but if it came down to the player wanting to go then he'd let him!

Shouldn't write off players just by looking at their stats. Zat told us all that Gabbiadini was a shocking player just by having a peek at his stats on wiki. 42 career goals spread over 9 seasons with 6 different clubs.

He's made a cracking start to life here and looks a player.

Jose seems to have the tools to make it as a PL player, strong, physical and leads the line. Nobody knows just how well he'll settle though so it's always a bit of a gamble.

Wouldn't hold my breath on this one anyway as Koeman could easily pull a Belfodil.

I think that is an absolutely spot on point. I remember when morientes signed for the RS another one who was going to be the final piece in the jigsaw and scored about half a dozen goals but his stats prior to that were exceptional.

I think stats are useful but so is an eye for a player and how that player will fit into a team and a team dynamic . We've had experts or expert on here tell us what a complete waste of money schneiderlin was going to be and lets face it he hardly featured but in a short space of time has looked integral to tr side. That's why managers and to a degree Walsh get paid the big bucks , its transfers that cost managers their jobs .

As for lukaku I saw earlier in the thread somebody mention a lineker comparison and I think it's valid . I really like lukaku and I think he's a fantastic player but the team is set up for him to create chances for him , if he leaves then as has been said then I think we'd see a change in system and style rather than us trying a like for like replacement. For lukaku himself I think that's were he might find it a little different as a lot of other teams , other than perhaps Man U , probably wouldn't build a team around him .

Exactly. Koeman will of given Walsh the remit that he wants a target man that can hold the ball and link the play. Walsh always talks about that him and Koeman speak about systems and the way Koeman wants to play and he'll of told Walsh he wants a target man, which this Willian Jose seems to be. Not every CF from the off is prolific, look at Costa in his time at Spain before he hit it off big time at Atl. Madrid!

Now loads are saying we should go for Lacazette, Hernandez, Dembele of the top of my head etc, but are they your "target man" type CF's regardless of the goals they get? I wouldn't say so!

I don't actually think this signing, IF we make it like, is seen as Lukaku's replacement...

Due to a poor defence that needs a overhaul, and a midfield that is slowly getting better

**This is your monthly statistics PSA**

As great as statistics and analytics are (and they very much are), it's important to treat them like your sense of smell. Your nose can confirm the milk has gone bad or tell you that something's burning, but you're still going to use it in concert with your other senses.

The opposite is also true. A player may look great on the pitch when in reality the team plays lousy whenever he's in a match.

Use all your senses. It helps.
