Summer Transfer Window 2017

If any other club had lost their 2 'best' players in one window people would call it a disaster of a window.

Time for people to face some facts really, we have or will sell 2 of the most highly rated young players in the prem and replaced them with either a washed up Rooney or players from below us in the league.

Hardly great is it?

Rom is a big loss. Any team would struggle to replace a striker who scores 25 league goals

Having said that, if you look at our striking options, we are replacing Lukaku, Valencia and Kone with (hopefully) Giroud, Sandro and Rooney. I'd say overall that makes us stronger

Barkley - he may have been one of our "best" players, but to many people (myself included) he isn't going to be very difficult to replace - indeed the combination of Klaassen and Sigurdsson should leave us significantly stronger than just having Barkley as an attacking midfield option

Assuming we get Giroud and Sigurdsson over the line, I can't see how the transfer window has been anything but a success.

Thats it. We need 3 more players. And these need to be quality players. Failure to get them means we will end up in 7th at best. Get them and we can give the club board and manager etc credit as they would have done a very good job considering 2 players wanted out anyway. Get them and we could have a go at top 6 no problem.I think they failed last summer and this lead to barkley and lukaku leaving. I blamed the club then. I will credit them if they get it right this summer. But the job is not finished. These players are needed so fingers out from the club and crossed from us that they can get these signings over the line. They cant fail this summer again.

If we don't get pace, we are going to struggle a bit. The RS can't defend and their midfield is pretty kack, but they have so much pace up top that they'll win much more than they will lose. We have a decent defense and good midfield...but we won't score enough goals unless a fast, and proven goalscorer is bought along with a top quality winger. And that's over 100 million worth of players. Gilfi and Giroud are not the answer to what we need.

They are though.

We need a focal point for the attack - Giroud is that player if we want a target man, or at least he's the best of the players likely available to us.

Sigurdsson is as good as any winger when it comes to crossing and is also creative in the final third.

We could do with a bit more pace, yes, and we may well target one more player in that area, but we also have Bolasie to come back while Lookman and Sandro are both very quick off the mark.

We need 2 rapid full backs like Koemi had at saints (clyne and Bertrand) in order to play with this current set of players, I just hope Baines rediscovers his attacking brain and cuco improves.

..it's a fair point but I always think of Baines as a link player rather than a speedster. He's at his most potent linking with like minded players in the top third of the pitch. The idea of Rooney playing on that side does have some appeal although the manager probably prefers Sandro coming in on his right foot.

Siggurdson, Giroud and either a Mori replacement or winger. That being said I think Giroud or a striker like him is the most important signing we need to make this summer

haha it's fine!

I agree with your point.

Holes to fill. But confident we will do. It seems that as soon as the clock ticked over to August 1st the other day, people started losing their heads again.

Suddenly we're the worst team on the planet and have only spent the Lukaku money etc etc when in reality that literally doesn't mean a thing (plus our U23s have also spent more than several PL clubs have on their 1st-team squads this summer).

People are strange.
I agree finally someone speaking some sense. we have invested in positions we need. koeman has said he wants another cb and striker. to be honest that is all we need we have already made a lot off singings for now and the future.

neither Bertrand or Clyne are 'rapid'.

What they do have is bundles of energy.

Coleman to come back, but I'd definitely be hoping Kenny gets put in there really in the mean time.

And on Baines, it's clear he needs a partner.

People seem to forget Baines never has been *that* quick. He hasn't lost any of his attacking brain, he still gets into those positions, but too often he's forced to check back as he has nobody to link up with.

Yeh, totally agree. By "Rapid" I meant have the ability to get forward well and still defend. It really suited the style that saints had then and without it they would have had pace issues like us.

I'd say three signings (which is what Ron has said as well).

- Playmaker (Gylfi)
- Striker (Giroud seems to be target no.1)
- CB/LB utility player

In an ideal world, yeh we'd add another forward player in with a bit more pace, but I'd rather see Lookman play first rather than us go and spend another £20m+ on Gray.

Almost certainly I think

They did have Mane, though, while Long was no slouch.

If Bolasie wasn't crocked, we wouldn't have had this discussion.

Lookman and Sandro are quick and as long as Kev plays in the right areas (central or right) he usually has the beating of his man even if he's lost the raw pace he had a few years back.

Why we need Giroud - or a player like him in - is due to the fact that Sandro is a striker who starts central but seems to drift wide.

That opens up a huge bit of space but we need somebody in there to fill it, who is just going to be that true No.9.
