I don't really understand why everyone in here views the squad so negatively. We lost Lukaku and added a bunch to a decent enough team and we sit here acting like it's a disaster waiting to happen.

.....here's the rumour round-up for this Wednesday morning;

- According to the Daily Mail, Gylfi Sigurdsson has told the Swansea hierarchy that he wants to move to Everton before the start of the season. WalesonLine suggest the transfer has reached stalemate with Everton yet to return with an improved offer.

- The Liverpool Echo say Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders to sign Everton midfielder, Ross Barkley. Meanwhile, the Daily Star quotes Harry Redknapp encouraging Spurs and Perry Groves urging Arsenal to sign the player.

- The Echo also suggest 19 year old Everton midfielder, Kieran Dowell, is on the verge of a season long loan at Nottingham Forest. The Nottingham Post and plenty of other outlets are reporting the story.

- The Daily Mirror says Ronald Koeman is now after players with the right mentality in the drive to join the country's elite. They quote Koeman; "The first season was to try to play good football and get good results but now we need to make the next step. We need to get the type of player who can use that pressure and the qualities we need to improve".

- The Daily Mail report Everton are set to offer veteran midfielder Gareth Barry a one-year contract extension amid interest in the player from West Brom.

We needed a complete overhaul of the defence. Buying Pickford and Keane has helped, but the fact of the matter is we still face the prospect of going into a Premier League season with Cuco Martina at right back and one of a knackered Williams and Jagielka as first choice centre back.

It wasn't like we were terrible at defending last season and we've certainly improved. So I still don't get the panic

As it stands now I feel underwhelmed at this stage of the window. ...

Yes we are moving in the right direction and yes we have made good safe bet signings but not a signing yet that has made me say "wow"

Losing Lukaku and Barks is right for the club but we are much weaker in those core areas.

Pace is a obvious need, we have a midfield of genuine neat and tidy , really effective possession - ball winners but none if creativity

I trust RK and SW but looking at the top 7 makes me certain that will not even get near the top 4 and if we have sustained runs in cups we may struggle to cement 7th

Let's pray the window has a few good surproses. .
