i think one of our biggest weaknesses that was shown today was not having players willing to take people on, go on dribbling runs past defenders etc. everything seemed very predictable and static. not sure about the accuracy of this, but WhoScored says we didn't have a single completed dribble against stoke and i think that unpredictability and "magic" going forward is something we could do with more of. maybe sandro can provide that when he starts to gel more with the team or even lookman but its something i think could be worth addressing in the transfer market along with a striker/centre half.

get well soon yannick x
Said we needed that too. Lanzini, RB and a CB. That's what we need.

Baines can do one more year if we don't have the money.

Gibson (who I don't remember seeing play apart from England games) was said to be rated at 28mil by Boro.

For me left centre back and left back are the most significant signings this summer.

If Jagielka breaks down we are screwed with Williams and likewise Baines for Cuco.

As Deco says, we would be a different team with VVD but I think that if we have 50++ million to spend and he doesn't come then we should at least be in for another Keane or superior level player...from somewhere...I mean Walsh is meant to be looking for these players.

Failing that, I'm all for us going in for Gibson and why not Chilwell also? Would be easier perhaps to integrate English players and then next summer go for a real star centre back so we have the option of 3 at the back.

Surely we cant just sign an 'ok' or good defender...we need to sign a class act so we have Pickford, Keane and the new player marshalling the defence.

Its looking a bit 'Newcastle' with all the focus on forward positions and a makeshift defence.

If we had Pickford, Keane and VVD as our constant rock throughout the season, the rest would fall into place. I'm surprised that we'd bid 60m EUR for Koulibaly last summer and not follow it up this season though? Him or VVD would be game changing for us.

It seems Gylfi is days away now, but we still need another proper striker up top and I'd be very happy with someone like Chilwell to put pressure on Baines and give him breaks when needed.

I love players who dribble past the opposition. They make it exciting and put bums on seats.

We did have that with Del and possibly have it with Lookman and Davies already.

What we have not possessed since finishing 4th, and last winning a trophy, is a top class goalkeeper.

I actually think we have that for the first time in a generation. Build from the back.

Add the stardust once we have become a very hard side to score against.

There's no way we were going to pay 60m for a defender. It's delusional to think otherwise.
