Everton asked for €50m for striker after submitting €30m offer, Koeman very keen to add

Ronald Koeman made it very clear on Monday night, after the 1-1 draw with Manchester City, that he wants more additions at Everton, and believes adding a striker is important for the club’s plans this season.

That came a few days after Koeman’s column for Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf made it clear he expects more incomings at Goodison Park, and believes transfer business will be a proof of Everton’s ambition.

All of that seems to have made its way to Portugal, with Record deciding to go big again with their Raul Jimenez to Everton claims.

It’s stated both Everton and AS Monaco want the player, and the Blues have already submitted a €30m offer, which was knocked back. After previously receiving a €50m offer from China, which the Mexican striker knocked back, Benfica believe they can get that elsewhere.

Of course that makes little sense, Chinese clubs pay way over the odds, but then there’s not a lot of sense in any of the Raul Jimenez reports.

Jimenez has made three league appearances for Benfica so far this season, all of those as a substitute. Last season the 26 year old made 6 league starts for Benfica, and 13 as a substitute, and scored 7 goals.

The Mexican’s figures down the years do not point to a player worth €50m, or €30m for that matter.

Signing Raul Jimenez for anything around €30m or more would be a panic buy from Everton.

His agent / Benfica have been pumping the press with that knackers for months mate, the lad is never worth that kind of dosh, his record is beans

Keep kidding yourself that you can submerge one issue into the other and allow this manager a situation where failure to compete for CL spots or win a trophy is acceptable after spending over three times as much in one summer as anytime before.

It isn't it.
It would be intriguing to know how many clubs broke their transfer records this year and how many spent three times as much as they did last year. they cant all be looking for a top four finish.... or can they.....?

It was the element of predictability in their equaliser that was the hardest thing to take. I didn't dare get my hopes up for a win after we scored and the sending-off at any point from then on.

There were 3 points there for the taking and we didn't take them.

The difficulty is in seeing how the squad, and even the club as a whole, can overcome this clearly embedded inferiority complex. I thought so many new personnel would be a big help in that regard but this seems to be a cloud hanging over us playing away against the so-called elite.

No arguments that these clubs, most of them, have superior teams and squads. If they play at full throttle, more often than not, we'll struggle to get a result.

But if we couldn't get over the line with the set of circumstances that last night presented, you wonder when we ever will. Do we have to be 2, 3 goals up heading into injury time to be confident of seeing things out?

The only saving grace was that City didn't score again as I'm convinced they would have if they had an extra 5 minutes. That, once again, is a huge worry.

The most unfortunate part was that the positive substitutions did not work. That is no slight on the players as both are not 100% yet (Sigurdsson has had no pre season and Klaassen has yet to adapt to the English game). Sandro would have been an ideal sub to bring in but he was sadly injured. Lookman might have been worth the gamble in hindsight as we ended up far too deep.

Rarely agree with him but I do on this occasion. We just sat in and hoped we could defend for 45 minutes in the second half. We didn't look interested in trying to score a second and killing it. Say what you like about City's home record but 1-0 up against 10 men was a massive opportunity and second half Rooney, Davies, Schneiderlin and Gueye were all guilty of giving the ball away every time we got it. We showed no composure at all. I was gutted last night.
Can't really call it a terrible result though even if it was disappointing in the circumstances. Start calling a 1-1 draw away at city a terrible result and you'll implode when we lose at home to Rotherham in the cup in a couple of months.
