Isn't a keeper that makes saves not a keeper that wins us points or am I really confused as to how goalkeeping works.

A keeper makes saves. No matter what league they are in they make saves. Doesn't mean joe Boggs at Aldershot is the next big thing because he kept Chelsea out in the cup when they peppered him with shots. Most keepers are signed to make saves and the worse the team in this league especially, the better they look.

So establishing the idea that goalkeepers generally are good at making saves when faced with shots, a great keeper is one who can make the saves when they really matter. The match winning saves in the dying minutes, the ones who don't get a shot on them all game and out of nothing a top corner shot is clawed away. The ones who dominate their defence and make the goal look half the size because they command it.

So looking not just at Robles but most keepers mentioned and potential signings, most of them might be decent under the cosh but how many of them make those saves that really matter? Robles has cost us a few points this season without really saving more in return. Same as stek, saved a few at his best and then lost us points at his worst. Neither are dependable and if Robles didn't play for us , sure as he'll you would never have heard of him.

That made my head hurt.

To sum up :

A good keeper is a shot stopper and also able to fully concentrate for the duration of the game, whether he us busy all game or quiet all game x

Jesus where was the essay warning. I see what you're saying but what you're talking about are keepers behind brilliant defences which ours isn't. Who's to say if Pickford - for example - was at Chelsea and did nothing for 89 minutes he wouldn't save that last minute goalbound shot?

And by the same reckoning would Cortouis not look a freak shot stopper if he played for Sunderland?

We can only assess a keeper based on what we see them do behind the defences they've got.

If you're not a fan of Pickford or Hart or whoever else is mentioned. Which of this last-minute saving keepers do you want?
