Sell the main striker, don't replace him until deadline day with a panic signing.

My gut reaction is so-so, he wouldn't have any huge incentive to do well here.

That sort of deal cannot be the answer alone. For me it would only make sense if we signed another striker alongside him, but that has no logic either unless it was someone young who didn't mind a period of restricted game time. And we have one of those in DCL.

Best scenario is getting someone like Dembele in alongside Costa. Otherwise we look very vulnerable again in January, or far earlier if Costa decided to have an extended holiday with us.

Commercial decision is chuff all to do with us. If he comes for 4 hours and scores a goal that changes our season, I'd be pleased.

If he comes for 4 months, 3 hours and 29 seconds - that's fine by me. Any less would be a disaster. Get a grip, if we had 25 games with one of the leading strikers in Europe, we should snatch their bloomin' hands off.

We have not managed to get a successor to Lukaku. I fully accept that we're not going to get anyone as good as him, but surely there must be somebody available in one of the European leagues who wouldn't cost a king's ransom?

yep, one replacement needed. Hardly gaping holes in the team is it? Our fans this summer in this thread have been terrible, fair play. It seems everyone expects us to have a fully world class squad of 25 at the end of it, at the very least two top quality players for every position. Not even man city or chelsea have that.
