Summer Transfer Window 2017

The fact we are enquiring about that Zohore is worrying. Why are we in for Championship strikers.
Why? He might have been identified as a future star and the Brighton bid has forced our hand now because this time next year he may be worth an even bigger fortune as more clubs are after him if all goes as predicted.

Having said that, he's not what I was expecting as a replacement for Lukaku.

League One Dominic Calvert-Lewin is our replacement for 100 million goal machine Romelu Lukaku. Best get used to it. It's ok, we've only got about 60 games ahead of us this season.
We signed Big Nev from 4th division Bury, an entire division below DCL, guess that means DCL will be better than Messi, Ronaldo and Pele combined.

Good lord man. Take this nonsense somewhere else. There was 0% chance that Lukaku was staying.
I am aware of that.
Did we have to sell him without having any idea of who his replacement was or could be? Answer is no.
United flashed a bit of cash and we couldn't sell him quick enough. Never mind getting a replacement in or anything like that, just help our rivals strengthen their first eleven while we scratch around all summer long for a striker, ultimately getting nobody or an Enner Valencia-style 'replacement' out of sheer panic.

Because maybe his first choice is still a possibility (Giroud)

He's 4th choice at the minute he can't be happy with that
Mate, we got rebuffed about a month ago on Giroud. The 2nd/3rd/whatever should have been wrapped up the next week.

(I will say I still hold out the smallest of hopes for him with that shower down there but, my GAWD, he is not what one would call 'pacy')

Spot on, one reason they get big bucks for their cast offs is the name of the club.
That's a fair point that but it's starting to ware thin for big players going in. Getting a player to a lesser team from them is big news but moving to them isn't as appealing and they are starting to get the also ran tag with the current generation of footballers.

Got to laugh that two days before the deadline the only concrete interest we've had in a striker is a championship striker with one decent season under his belt. This lad makes Dwight Gayle look like Aguero.

The state of us being rebuffed by a Chanpionship club for a striker we know we needed desperately this late in the window.

Amateur hour.

I can smell the fume... if we are after a no-mark Cardiff striker called Kenneth, we are well and truly desperate.

Troy must have turned us down!

Someone start a January transfer window thread? I wonder can we get Giroud then when we are 12th? :pint2:

The confirmation that we've been knocked back for a Championship striker in our attempts to replace Lukaku is pretty grim stuff to be reading 48 hours before the deadline.

You've got to be honest with yourself and admit none of us hoped that we would be looking to the Championship for a striker before the window shuts because we failed over the entire summer to bring in an adequate replacement.

The fact we are enquiring about that Zohore is worrying. Why are we in for Championship strikers.

Why are you all sweating about this? For all we know he could've simply been identified as a squad player but the price they've quoted has put us off, and rightly so...

You cannot compare football 30 years ago to football today. You cannot afford to gamble on unproven teenagers from lower leagues. Relegation can ruin a club nowadays due to its financial impact. Quality needs to be replaced with quality, not some lucky punt for a few quid. And for what it's worth I like DCL and think he has huge potential, but he should not be starting games as our striker.

Jamie Vardy, Seamus, Gana.

Could be that we've left it to the last 48 hours to bring in a player most of us understand will be integral to what we're looking to accomplish this season.

Could be disappointment to be getting linked to a Championship striker after seeing us move on from links to Giroud, Dzeko, and others.

Could just be dropping bait into the transfer thread.
