Let's be clear, I don't like Jimenez for many of the reasons others have cited - diver, inconsistent - but he is talented. This isn't Niasse here. He's the most expensive transfer in Mexican history for a reason. He's a real boom or bust player, though.

Fair enough, kind of wrote it down wrong, more saying that Jiminez is a proven flop in weaker leagues already, Zahore has not exactly set the Championship alight and it is a massive step up to the top league - so equally is a very very unimpressive 'main' signing as a starter

Jimenez isn't shocking.

Lad definitely has a lot of talent.

His consistency has been the issue at Benfica.

Not my first choice, and I said on here earlier in the summer I wouldn't want us going anywhere near him for a mental fee.

But if it's £25m (I know, that is mental, but relatively speaking), he's a type of player we definitely don't have atm.

Think it's clear who the manager wants/wanted. I think we've left it late in the hope of getting Giroud in.

The risk was we left it too late. Jimenez was linked earlier in the summer and we had scouts at a lot of Benfica games last year.

To me that suggests he's been on our list of targets for a while.

He's not some raw 21yo mate, or a lad/kid etc, he's 26 and should be at his peak.

A inconsistent player in a weak league and at a dominant team is not going to find consitancy at his age in a much stronger league

We would have had to have scouted a lot of Benfica games to have seen him for more than 5-10 minutes mate as he didn't start too many

he also suffered three separate decent length injuries in the last couple of years

Maybe he was touted as some wonder-kid one day long ago, but he's 26 and not actually shown all this talent at either of his former clubs

He is the type of striker we laughed at West Ham for signing over recent years.
