Summer Transfer Window 2017

We don't deserve to be successful when we roll out the red carpet for a club down the road to take our best player. He had 2 years left. It was disgraceful.

It's only as we haven't replaced him mate we all knew he wanted out we can accept that it's the fact we've not brought in a replacement as such.
That's bad bad BOARD management but what's new

I disagree. None of the club's around us sold their top players. We couldn't wait to.

That's because our board is fraudulent and everything about the club is small time.

I think it's fair to say that apart from pickford and Keane, it's increasingly clear that there was no strategy to buying the other players - 3 number 10s and some random dude (vlasic) who we saw play against us a week before the season started, a championship quality RB on a free, some speedy winger who we had to loan out immediately after buying.

Utter shambles.

Walsh, koeman, board all to blame and I am not going my breath that they are going to suddenly become competent in the January window.

Very strange that there seemed to be no one else interested in buying any of our new signings.Maybe a bit more interest in the young lad who's at Feyenoord, but as for the rest, we had no competition.

It's not that we couldn't wait to Tim...

We offered both of the players you speak of record deals for our club.

Neither wanted to stay...

Lukaku, you can understand. It was expected without CL - you have to accept it.

We got what at the time was a world-record equalling fee (mental to think it was then broke three times over in the space of a month!).

The Barkley situation is a lot more difficult to judge and as others have said no party comes out well from that.

The board is an embarrassment. I got slammed for saying we saw Vlasic play twice and signed him and then Koeman Walsh came and said just that
We were in a hurry to sell Lukaku and we blew it on a pile of garbage. Pickford decent buy but he is De Gea replacement next summer

Clubs always end up selling their top players if they want away. Barca even sold Neymar.

What does look like poor business is the fee we got for him. We sold one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world, who happens to be still very young, for £75m. Meanwhile the RS are turning down £120m for Coutinho. Our negotiating for him was a disgrace in hindsight. We were robbed.

I think the problem was his transfer got the ball rolling for transfer fees over the summer. If the Neymar, Dembele and Coutinho transfers had occurred (or might have occurred with Coutinho) before we sold Lukaku, I am sure we would have got well north of 100m for him.

possibly but it allowed us to get players in earlier, i dont think the lukaku fee was particularly bad business..it was our failure in other areas

You're probably right there. Hindsight is always wonderful. Nonetheless, we seemed much softer in our dealings over him than usual. We usually knock back a few bids and hope an element of panic sets in for the other club. Perhaps too we wanted Rooney done as swiftly as possible.
