If he's fit then that's a great shout. Still under 30 as well I think? But he'll have a shedload of good offers on the table.

He turned 28 in March and hasn't played a huge amount of matches in his career so I imagine he has plenty in the tank.

I'm not sure if many clubs could/would offer what we can as it's still a bit of a risk.

Thinking about it actually, he's got Klopp written all over him.

Dolberg is an exceptional talent few sessions with the big man to muscle him up and he is ready lol. Klaassen i have doubts. If he scores same number of goals he would be a fantastic signing if not he offers not much than we already got

Scoring goals is probably his best feat, wouldnt worry about that. Or he has to be extremely unlucky

i know we'd have no chance, but i'd love us to put in a massive big for aguero, the sort of fee branded around for van dijk and koulibaly, i'd love us to just slap that on the table and show some ambition. Pep clearly doesn't want him, jesus' good start to life at city would make him even less arsed about selling him too. One can dream i suppose, maybe he'd want to stay in the prem ha

Signing van dijk would make me an instant big everton fan, but he will cost around 40 - 50m right? Bit much for a defender

Good post mate, the only thing that lets it down is that it is utter madness.

hmm, i don't really understand the fascination with open play tbh, he's what, 1 goal away from coutinho, a player who the media seem to utterly rave about, and 2nd best assister in the league, all despite playing for a bad team with no real striking options bar llorente. Why does it matter where on the field these stats come from? A team i'd say averaged 4 or 5 corners every game, they amount of clear cut chances a team creates in a game is probably even lower than that, so why are set-plays devalued in such a way?

We've been alright with goals from set plays this season, but the fact of the matter is we don't have anyone in the squad who can take a good corner and our free kick options are utterly appalling seeing as baines doesn't take anything anymore.

If siggurdsson ended up with 20 assists for us next season with 7 or 8 goals, but none of them were from open play, why on earth would we pass it off? His main attributes are what this team needs, but he's also much better from open play than people believe, he's having to feed a very static llorente this season, so his open play stats in that regard is bound to be down on previous seasons.

I don't think he's as good as he's made out. I honestly think Barkley has more in the tank and can offer us more.

I get that some people rate him

I'm not saying he's a bad player. He's alright, and he'd improve our set pieces by about a million percent but if you watch him, he doesn't really add much to what we already have from open play. He's a decent enough player, but not the level where he takes us up a notch which I thought was what we were aiming for.

Why be so obsessed with what he can do from open play rather than be happy that he adds assists from dead ball situations? Because as an attacking player I want him to contribute to opening up an opposing defence or scoring himself, otherwise he's a potentially a passenger for 90% of a game. His goal record is ok but he takes pens and free kicks (admittedly very well).

He's a perfectly decent player, but if he is Barkley's replacement, for example, I don't think it's a particularly big upgrade, and that's what I'd like to see us aiming to do.

There's too much smoke for there not to be a fire as far this transfer goes, we've been linked with him for the last 12 months, so I'm sure we have real interest in him. I just hope our expectations of him are realistic.

I'm not even saying I don't think we should be buying him, just that he isn't as good as a lot of people on here have been making out

Btw, as I mentioned in my original post - apparently less than 10 assists from open play in his entire PL career before this season. I don't think Llorente has anything to with it. But - you may be right in that in a different/better team with more movement and quality in attacking areas, his productivity may improve. We won't know until he is given the opportunity but all I would say is that there is little evidence to support the theory that I can find

Yes, but I think that is why big Ron is hard after Sandro. 50m is a lot for a defender, but getting 2 quality, starting caliber players - one who defends and one who attacks - for 55-60m...that would be reasonable in today's market.

I doubt we will get VVD, but I think we will try.

yeah, for some reason i just doubted that assist stat, maybe it is right, but at the end of the day, we have hideous options for free kicks and even worse options for corner takers. I had a feeling he was much more ball on the ground when he had a striker like bony, just a change of tactics this season with llorente there now as a target man. We have pretty much no goals at all coming from midfield with our current squad, they're all 5 goals max kind of players, and nobody i would label as an assist king, although bolasie was doing very well in this department before his injury.

there's probably a lot of better options around europe that would cost a lot less, but they'd also be a lot higher risk, i personally think he'd flourish here and we should buy him regardless of barkley's situation, so i hope it gets done.

i agree, man city have shown that throwing massive numbers at all kinds of defenders still doesn't guarantee you a great defence. Compare that to spurs who picked up brilliant defenders for low fees.

Mangala £32m, Otamendi £32m, stones £50m, bravo £17m vs alderweireld £12m, vertonghan £12m, lloris £11m.

Massively better players those ones signed by spurs there.
