Summer Transfer Window 2017

...I'm certainly not seeing anybody we're linked with who's an obvious improvement on Joel. The other factor is Schmeichel is 30 as is Heaton.
Agree just get Pickford & let them fight it out for first choice we tried in the summer to get A- list signings and it didn't work. In a perfect world we sign donnamurra from ac Milan but it's not happening we need to target the correct Players I.e Keane Pickford Rooney these are achievable who knows we may sneak van dijk doubtful but we can try provided we have the others.

We need to get a squad then the hard part will be attracting the one or two who can make the difference unless rom & Ross can step up another couple of levels

I've stated my concerns about Keane a couple of times regarding how I feel Burnley sitting deep suits him to a tee and how he might struggle playing for a side that plays a higher line.

Spoke to a few Burnley fans about this since and they're adamant he'd fit in and be top class in any side in the league (they pretty much feel he'd get in any first 11 apart from Tottenham's). They say much better on the ball than people realise and nowhere near as slow.

From looking at him he seems not too dissimilar to Gary Cahill and he's a very very good centre back.

He is a top class player and importantly a really good lad.

A colleague in work was discussing how he has a relative who knows him personally. Said he is a very grounded, hard working and likeable person.

Important traits in a player.

At the moment he looks the best centre half we can get without the real top teams getting involved. There are over 10 games to go so he may even prove to be so good they do become involved but for me we probably need 2 centre halfs so he should be top target & then try for a Stella partner if we only get Keane then Williams plus holgate & Pennington

Would Keane and Tosin Adarabioyo, along with Pennington's elevation, be enough in your eyes?

We need at least one starting centre back signing, Keane looking the likely option.

Centre mid is set with the numbers we have and quality in the current starting 3 and back ups of besic, McCarthy, Barry.

We need a strong back up to baines, Shaw is out of favour with mourinho and seeing how his out of favour players work out in a blue shirt with Lukaku and schneids, if Shaw's available at a bargain price and he has no long term fitness issues I'd go for him.

We really need some genuine options up front and in the attacking positions. If we need to change a game to include wide men other than full backs and, heaven forbid in this day and age, even playing two strikers we need to bring in a player that can ideally do both those roles. Again I'd go for an out of favour man u player if he's available in martial.

We might pick up gyp for being a man Utd second team but bringing in those two, if they have the right attitude and can regain some fitness/sharpness, I don't think many would argue they wouldn't improve our squad options.

Move Lennon and jags on next season, send Valencia back to west ham and see what happens with Del towards the end of the season with Milan.

An alternative to Barkley would be good just from a number of games and injury point of view but could Davies do that role if needed? From watching him so far there doesn't seem much he isn't capable of doing.

Wonder what we'll realistically bring in for player sales?
Cleverly £8m
McCarthy £15m?
Del £10m?
Niasse £7m?
Lennon £5m?
Any others we can expect fees for?
We've cut the squad and saved plenty on wages already but losing Kone, Jags and McGeady along with the others mentioned will free up quite a bit more.

In theory should be able to bring in 4 or 5 players of real top quality in the summer without having to sell our top players.

Luke Shaw is a good shout. He was arguably Utd's best player for a period when the rest of the team were struggling under Van Gaal. Very, very good going forward.

i hope this keane stuff is just paper talk. I want a much bigger name than that, i'm saying this having never seen him play in my life, but he's not played at a high level in his whole career. We're going to be a team hoping for champs league and possibly in europe next season, i want someone who has been playing in european competition. It's very much a moyes era signing and i don't think that's what we need for all of our signings.

It doesn't matter too much at the end of the day where they come from as long as they're good enough, but we need a couple of sprinkles of magic around in some places, doing all our business from clubs like burnley, swansea, palace, villa etc. will only get us so far. We need to buy a couple of more players of lukaku and schneiderlin's current stature. Anyway, that's months away.

Chelsea signed Gary Cahill from Bolton and he's turned out to be great for them. I see this to be a similar type of signing.

You only have to look at some of the money City have thrown at highly rated centre backs in recent years to see that big transfer fees / names don't always work out.

Keane had a good grounding at Utd and has shown enough at Burnley to more than suggest he can take the step up.
