Isn't that just player at club backs manager story though mate ? I appreciate he's supportive but it doesn't tell us a great deal really does it , players often openly back managers then they're sacked and they say how much better the new bloke is.

I'm certainly not having a go but it's all a bit meaningless really , although I do appreciate it's hardly a player agitating for a move .

Confession: I've never watched this Klaassen fella play and all i've had chance to do is look at YouTube which i'm aware can be falsely representative.

For those who genuinely do know alot about him:

Is he a striker or a midfielder?
Does the fact that, whilst his movement is good, he doesn't seem to have any real pace not worry any of you?
Is this going to be Vincent Janssen mrk II?
An attacking midfielder/ number 10 doesn't really need pace.
Look at Eriksen, Ozil, coutinho, fabregas. Mata, silva, hardly speed merchants.

If we play a front 3, important at least 2 have pace imo. Klassen will play behind them

think the idea people have said is that Sigurddson would be playing left in a 4-3-3 mate, and yup Klassen is 100% a attacking midfielder - but strictly a central one, my guess would be he';d be the choice to try add some more goals to the current group of Schneiderlin/Gueye/Davies and would see the end of McCarthy.

Could see Davies learning from him and hopefully developing a bit more on the attacking side as well, physically and pace wise they are pretty similar - both have a great work-rate too

I was thinking this about Davies the other day. Is this a similar position as Tom do you think as he's been given free reign a few times hasn't he. He's put a couple.of lovely balls through himself.

I like Tom, I'd flog the rest of the squad and have Tom against the opposition by himself tbh

Agreed - my concerns were more if the lad was a centre forward.
If he's a midfielder than absolutely, his pace isn't a huge concern

I wouldn't profess to watching him every game mate, but I've seen a fair bit of him this year from the limited Europa League I've watched/covered, and before that had seen him a few times for Ajax/Netherlands last season.

Firstly, he is a midfielder. For Ajax he plays a box-to-box role in a 4-3-3, alongside Schone (who acts as their anchor) and Ziyech who is basically given freedom in the playmaker role.

Klaassen is tasked with getting the ball in the middle and distributing either to Ziyech or out to the flanks - kind of like a McCarthy role.

The difference is he then makes forward third-man roles into the penalty area and pops up to link the play, assist or score.

The pace thing wouldn't be an issue for me. IMO, he'd be ideal to alternate with Davies in either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 (supposing in that instance that Davies was playing in a central advanced role). In either system, it would free up a playmaker to take up one of the wide positions with the freedom to roam, and Klaassen would also offer a genuine goal threat from midfield.

Ohh
so we'd want Gylfi AND this lad?

think Klassen is most similar to Davies out of our current centre mids aye.

Also think Davie sis arguably Koemans favourite player as well though

Wouldn't be a bad option having 3 of Schneiderlin, Gueye, Davies and Klassen to choose from in the centre though

Ideally mate I want Ross to stay and Klaassen. If that meant not getting Gylfi, so be it.

But being realistic, if Ross is off, then we'd still require a player like Gylfi to come in.

Then again, it would be no small feat to get Klaassen away from Ajax either.

Yep that would be ideal, with the option of dropping the playmaker(s) - whoever they end up being - back if needed, and also having Barry and/or Besic in reserve.

I'd like McCarthy to stay, and it's a shame cos Koeman clearly likes him as a player, but think the Ireland situation may have burnt his bridges and he just can't seem to stay fit.
