Replace Baines with a rapid left back. Play Gylfi off the left, can either cut in and shoot, or play in this new left back down the line. Added bonus of being a threat with a dead ball. Sign two new centre backs who dominate in the air and decent pace, vary how we play.

Whatever way,or whoever we are singing,we have to get the deals done as fast as possible,[been Everton-probably 2 weeks is fast],so no other team might come in,knowing the price we might be paying. so they can basically use us as knowing what the price was.

Was Baines ever that good at free kicks?

Baines hasn't scored a free kick in years. Also the fact he steps aside for Lukaku on penalties shows how mentally weak he is. Time to replace him, as without Pienaar he's average at best...

I didn't say that they were all from open play, I'm just trying to understand exactly what Barkley does from open play that makes him better than Sigurdsson.

Stats post alert.

In football analytics there is a statistic that measures how many assists you would expect to get for the chances you create.

This means if you played that pass to a striker in that position how often would it lead to a goal.

So if you tap a ball to a player on the half way line who dribbles around 5 players and slots it in you only get credited with 0.0000001 of an expected assist as only 1 in a million of those passes results in a goal.

If you put a ball into a player with an open goal 1 yard out and they blaze it over the bar then you get credited with 0.9 of an expected assist as 90% of those passes result in goals.

Now having written all of that I can't actually find the site that has the data on. But trust me Ross was in the top 20 and Sigurdsson didn't make the list.

Lukaku scored a whopper last year, Barkley in 2013/2014. Don't think he's the worst free kick taker we've had, but I reckon he averages one a season?

If that. Can't remember the last one he scored. Might even have been the 2 at West Ham.

We're not great at them.

Sigurdsson's set pieces and delivery are worth the fee and wages. He's not a bad footballer as well.

We shouldn't be too cautious in overpaying for players, every club above is do it every window and you can name a few examples in every team. Some pay off, some don't.

In regards to Sigurdsson, people will have their reservations. He adds to the growing list of key players we have take from lesser teams in the league. Whilst this should be coupled with more illustrious transfers, I have no problems with this approach. Take the best players from the bottom 13 teams you'd have a team capable of challenging for top 4. Add those signings with young prospects and more exciting buys, you have a good transfer approach.
