The swerve he put on this one was quite nice...I fail to understand how signing a backup with prem experience on a free when our alternative is Holtgate has people upset. Not every signing is going to be a top player. We're not Real.

It would be nice if we signed one top player though. Wouldn't it?

Just fleeting performances in past couple of seasons, he's had good games and bad. Last I saw of him this season was against Inter away in the Europa and he played well and I don't think he's been near the first team since. Not sure if he was injured or not?
Not injured, just not good enough for a mediocre saints side. Welcome Cuco. Sake.

This is doing the rounds on Twitter - a leaked shot from inside the locker room at USMFF.....

No surprise really. The long contract Shamus received always meant that a quality right back like Trippier wasn't realistic. The club was never going to spend a chunk of the budget on quality and also replicate two large wage outlays for one position.
RK obviously doesn't think Holgate is up to it at rb. Cuco clearly isn't very good if he's being released by Southamptom but, if he comes, maybe he'll be an adequate fill in until Shamus returns and hopefully JJ Kenny will get some opportunities also. It does all feel very Steklenberg like though.

Would not mind seeing Kenny getting a run at rb and he may still do but with Seamie out for a good few months of the season signing a back up experienced right back for free isn't the end of the world.
Kenny may well yet get a run at RB but whats the plan if he picks up the inevitable hammy strain? This is a wise piece of business and will aoid McCarthy or Davies playing there for the first half of the season.
