I don't think we are discussing the same player here...he was fabulous In both legs of the semi final and saved 2 certain goals in the second leg.

I don't think ive said he's a 'world beater', ive said that if he came to everton he would be our best defender and his potential is insane and could be world class in the future -- ive not said hes world class now.

Sounds like your job has gone to your head a bit

Erm, okay Zat.

Not really. 'My job' is just that - a job.

It's just my opinion of the player. I don't rate him as highly as you do - even though I do think he's very good and an excellent prospect.

There are better options available. Bear in mind Cuco is 27, he'll want a 3 year deal. This has Gibson/Cleverley/McGeady written all over it.

Koeman trusts him. He had a very solid defence at Saints that Martina was a part of. They finished a lot higher than this Saints side did. He's being brought in as backup. It's not a huge deal.

What would you do?

A -- Kenny/Martina
B -- Kenny/Holgate
C -- Kenny/Connolly
D -- Kenny/New signing

None if those mate, Kenny and look at bringing in a versatile player whose capable of filling in at fullback. Blind is the perfect example of those top quality squad players.

I agree with this. Coleman will be back by December, meaning we only need cover for three months. Bigger priorities within the squad for me.

Koeman obviously likes him - and I can't imagine that being an easy task - so I'm OK with him coming in for free.
We won't have him for six months though, we'll be stuck with him for years.

This is the same old garbage we had with Moyes. Buy in some adequate (no better than that) squad fillers and aim to be best of the rest. While the teams we are looking to catch aim to have two quality players in every position we load up on this dross and can't understand why we never (or very rarely) finish any better than "the best of the rest". We still lack ambition, sadly.

Very good saying it's cover for Coleman mate, but the reality is he's out for the first half of the season bare minimum, which means this lad will play and start a lot of games, and he's been entirely shown up at this level, hence why he can't get into the saints side and they want shut of him.

He hasn't really been 'shown up'.

I've never watched a game with him in it and thought 'f me he's awful'. I've seen him play, and just took the player for what he is. A bang average player as a back up.

Now I don't particularly want the player her. I'd much rather prefer us to go out and get somebody like Veltman who could fill two positions very well - and combine that with a top-class CB signing - but if the manager wants Martina to come in purely as some added competition for little cost then I trust his judgement.

It's just a bit 'meh'. He isn't a 'great signing', he'd just be there to add a bit more competition for the young lads. Holgate has had a torrid last few games and Kenny has had two PL appearances in his career, so I'll reserve judgement until we see more.

Well no. At right-back we have two very promising players (one of which is a CB) to provide that 'depth' when Seamus is out. They'll get their chances and hopefully take them.

Issue is, as Seamus is out for six months, we shouldn't be going into a season (which could be very very busy) with two 20-year-old full-backs, one of whom has a huge 70 minutes of game time in the Premier League...

So instead of bucking Kenny's progression with a 'huge' signing, it's surely sensible to get in a player the manager knows and trusts (on a free) as back-up to both Kenny and Holgate?

I don't think this is a case like Cleverley's, where Martinez viewed him as the answer to our playmaker issues...

I'd rather we put our energy and resources into signing players we need to improve the first team instead of looking at tosh like Martina

We've got one of the best rb's in Europe playing for us. He happens to be out injured.

We've got a really promising RB coming through the ranks and a young CB who has done well at RB but has faded as the season went on.

We've got a really busy season ahead of us.

This would be a sensible, easy-to-do deal that would see us well-stocked for that position until Coleman gets back to fitness.

Yep this is what I meant with Veltman.

I'd happily have him come in as RB/CB cover for example.

Blind is an example on the other side but I don't think he'll be leaving United.

Did you see the Chelsea game mate, the one he was so bad in his defending became a meme?
