Summer Transfer Window 2017

Would the fans of any of the teams above us accept, let alone defend, the signing of a "bang average player"? We have an inferiority complex from the fans all the way up to the board room.

Average isn't awful.

And yes, the teams above us would 'accept it'.

Arsenal do it - they spunked £32mil on one last summer, and L'Pool do it as well. So do City, and Utd. Chelsea as well. Spurs spent 30mil on Sissoko.

Martina would be what he is - back-up. He'd be competition for two 20-year-olds who at the moment present our only options at full-back heading into the season.

It's a cheap, easy deal that can be done quickly and the manager knows the player.

I'd like somebody better. But I can see why we'd get this guy in.

Kiev hit us for 5 ffs - Alcaraz was crap but not at fault for it all so what you're saying is a huge stretch. And Stones was an established first team player who should have played that game. Kenny and Connolly aren't.

Kenny may well go out on loan. Connolly too.

The thing is they'll most likely be given a full pre-season to get game time. If they really impress - like Holgate did last year - they'll keep their places.

But that isn't a sure thing. The step up is massive, and Koeman probably wants a more experienced player that he knows to call upon should it be required.

And rather than spend huge wages on an older player like Zabaleta or Sagna, or spend a hefty transfer fee on a hipster, FIFA-spaffing favourite, he'd rather get a cheap, easy deal done early on to have said player bedded in.

Now does that not seem sensible?
You're still not justifying to me the need to buy a crap player mate, sorry. Did you champion the signings of Stek and Alcarez per chance, when a lot of people didn't see the point? This deal stinks of that.

That's called hindsight - think everyone expected Xhaka to be a real hit.

I'm sorry zatara but what the hell is this? What the hell are you basing any of this on? how many games has Kenny played for the first team? How many games did he cover for coleman in after he got injured? Yet you are spouting that he will be starting in august? Then you throw in connolly?

In fact between the two of them they have made 3 substitute appearances ever for the club . Why the hell are you going on about them suddenly playing for the first team out of nowhere? If kenny is good enough he will make the step up but i can guarantee you Koeman isn't sitting around even contemplating putting Kenny in the team based on his 2 substitute appearances he has made.

I'm sorry but it is talking out of your arse to make giant posts about players then, in your own words don't claim them to be good enough anyway! It is literally picking young right backs at the club out and claiming you know exactly what koeman will do.

I know what koeman could do, he could sign the lad he got as a back up once before for cheap and use him again. That is a realistic opinion.

Ive seen Martina play a few times.

He is awful.

If Kenny, Connolly and Holgate lose a starting RB slot to him then they are either awful or Koeman has lost his mind

I don't need to know how good 3 of our young lads are to know how bad Martina is

I didn't champion either.

I said last summer that I thought Stek would be okay as third-choice, expecting us to sign a no.1 that we never did (and should have done).

And maybe it does, but I don't think he'll be first-choice. I think he'll be brought in (on a FREE) to add a bit of experience to a position where we've got two 20 yr olds.

That's called hindsight - think everyone expected Xhaka to be a real hit.

I didn't. He's a good player, but he's nothing special.

That was from seeing a few CL/EL games and watching him in the Euros, btw.

Now, obviously I'm not claiming to have intimate profound knowledge of every European footballer, but sometimes you can just tell.

Well I don't suspect many other people would agree with you so think it's wrong to think us signing a Cuco Martina is the same as Arsenal signing a highly coveted Granit Xhaka.

Chatting a slight bit of wham there mate.

Erm...and yet I was the 1st one here to say Gueye's stats were great for villa...

Funny how people vault really...takes a 'special' person

You're a bit of a turtlehead

You slated Gueye Zat (as did the rest of us, myself included).

Admit it. The vaults don't lie.

Oh yeh, I'm not saying that.

Obviously, they're two totally different category of player.

Which is why Martina is on a free and would add a bit of competition for two very young defenders, while Xhaka (rightly or wrongly) cost £32m.

Well moot point really. None of the teams above us would take a free like Martina if short would they? Examples such as Xhaka or Sissoko or whatever just aren't even comparable examples.
